I had the cage today since I had to do a road trip for work. On the way home after work traffic was backed up more than normal before the rotary and highway exit. I could see yellow lights in the opposite lane a half mile ahead. Several minutes later I caught up to the truck and there was a Kawi sport bike laid out in front of the truck all bent to hell. Another 50 feet past that there was SUV with the grill smashed in and the plastic bumper hanging down in the road. I am thinking to myself where's the rider? I don't see him. Further up the road another 50 feet there is a fire truck. So I pulled into the median on the exit ramp and got out of the car. Another fire truck pulls up and an ambulance. So as I get to the side of the road between the first fire truck. I don't see anyone accept a bunch of folks about 35 feet down the steep embankment circling around looking frantic. There was a parking lot full of construction equipment down below. An ambulance goes down to the parking lot below. The firemen all jump out and head down the hill with a body board.
As I am watching everything that is going on There was an FZ09 right next to me and another guy standing there but he wasn't the rider. The next thing I noticed was a pair of sneakers and a helmet about 10 or 12 feet apart on the ground. Again I don't see any riders.
There was a telephone pole right next to me. I am thinking to myself this isn't good. The firemen get down to the bottom and then I see them pulling a body out of a ditch. They put him on a body board and carried him to the ambulance. I then asked the guy if he was alright. I don't want to repeat what he said. He then said they called in a med flight. I asked him if that was his truck parked another 50 feet up the road. He said yes. I walked away at this point and started praying for the guy. He wasn't moving at all when they put him on the board. I walked up further towards the truck and I could see where the dirt and tire mark were disturbed.
The speed limit is 50 mph in that section of road. All I can imagine is someone trying to get off the exit going between stopped traffic to get to the other side of the road. They most likely had obstructed vision and never saw the bright green ninja. I will say it is a bad stretch of road to travel on.
So he bumped the car then the guard rail and went airborne. I am guessing he hit the pole with his body which dislodged his shoes and then bounced off down the embankment. No amount of ATGATT would have help in this situation. By the way all I could see for ATGATT was the helmet which is mandatory here. Almost 70 degrees today and a lot of bikes were out to get in there last rides for the season.
This is not good shit so be careful out there folks,
Dave
