I took a little comp time to today. Half day off work, didn't have any plans just going to chill out relax a little. It's very nice temps in the mid 70's, a little breezey, but good.

so I pull into the driveway, and my grandson(he's 11) is there. park the the bike, and begin to take off my gear, grandson starts walking around the bike looking it over real good, its a little suprising as hes never shown much interest in motorcycles before.

Then he asked the question,DO YOU THINK IT WOULD BE OK IF YOU TOOK ME FOR A RIDE?

After the shock wore off, I told him to call his mother, and tell her what we where doing. He came back mom said OK!!!!

So I sat him up on the pillon, and explain the rules, then we both gear up.

First I ride him down to a local church that has a big parking lot. we ride around the lot doing starts, stops, some slow turns, and hey he's doing alright back there.

Next I ride him out to a country lane that has little traffic, some nice gentle turns, and a few twisties, but don't lean the bike to far, taking it easy.

After about a hour of riding I pull into the driveway. and as I help he get his helmet off this is what greeted me. :D

Have I awaked the monster in this child?

Good job there Airboss!

Just do like you did and be a good example to him like you were today.

Do all your wheelies and stoppies out of his sight... :D

Thats great airboss.

I took my little girls for a ride last fall for a short 20-30 minute ride and when we get off the bike she looks at me and says "is that all we are going to do". I knew I then I created a monster in my girl. I couldn't be happier. And now that I have my communicaters working, my boy is enjoying it also. It is nice to be able to talk to one another without shouting.

oh now you've gone and done it! talk about bringing back memories...that's exactly how i got started, except it was my dad. i was younger but as soon as my feet could reach the pegs, the rides began. behind him on a gold wing back in the early 80's. some of my best kiddie memories! better go warn momma!!

Time to get those kids some dirt bikes! Get them started young and they can really learn how to handle and respect a motorcycle. Just my two cents.

Steve

HMMMMMMM, me thinks I see a dirt bike in my future.

Last one I had was a CL175 twin God that was a long time ago. Any suggestions?

This would be a good start. 3 speed trans with auto clutch. 2 stroke engine.

$1299.00 retail.

The PW80 is a strong machine. The TT90 still has the auto clutch which is a plus but is a 4 stroke and won't have the punch the 80 does so if you are worried about it being to much the TT90 is an option... $1700 but has electric start...

Being 11 I wouldn't go much smaller, the 50's are too short probably...

I don't know if these have throttle stops to restrict them that can be opened up later like my wr did. Some type of stop has to be available for new riders though.

Go check em out. You may end up getting a dirt bike and riding with him, big fun...

If you get hooked up with some dirt bikers at the nearest track, there is a good chance you could find a pretty nice 80 or 90 that some kid has outgrown without abusing it too much. Got my son an 80 Kawi and saved a lot of bucks over a new one. They grow out of them pretty fast.

Of course if you were talking about a dirtbike for yourself well.

WR250F_blu_1.jpg

This is what I have. It is a WR250F with electric start. My friends have 450f and they have ridden this and they love it. In the trails it handles much easier than their 450's and has plenty of power. They can't use all of their power so even though they have more it is useless.

With cutting the throttle restricting screw.

Cutting a wire that restricts the timing.

Putting on a YZF250 exhaust instead of the restricted wr exhaust.

JD jet kit this bike is truely awesome.

I also have a Scotts Steering Stabilizer on it.

I also increased the front springs for a measily $99 for my 210 lbs

Good luck and have fun.

+1 on the used I just can't find pictures of used ones :D

Just stay away from the Chinese bikes please...

PS: the WR has been around since 01 with a few suspension changes, electric start in 03 I think and an autodecompression cam in 03. You can find one used I am sure.

Honda's well if I may say this without getting beat to death they do have somewhat of a valve train history and my friends CRF even has transmission history...

I woke up similar things with my two neices in Colorado. They both wanted rides and since both have been talking about biking.

Thanks guys, some good looking stuff there, I'm going to talk to his dad this week end, get a little war plan together. Isaac hasn't stopped smiling or talking since the ride. I told him weather permitting Saturday we'll ride over to Bloomington( about 40 miles) and begin our annual summer minature golf challege. He won last year his short games a killer.

Right no Chinese bikes.

That one niece is looking like the ride roughed her up a bit. Big for her age too it would seem :p
