One of the rear round red reflectors fell off my '06. So I decided to take off the other one and liked the cleaner look, figuring little reflectors like that don't help a whole lot. Then checked the front rectangular ones and said, what the hell...

So I took those off (one bolt was torqued soooo tight by the setup guy). Noticed the left bracket also held a brake line. Any problems leaving the bracket and reflector off that side? Anybody have experience with this? I just snugged up the bolts. Do they need to be torqued a specific amount?

I really like the cleaner look.......

Lots of folks take off the front fork reflectors... then send them to Italy for Stef's friends... :)

You can remove the reflector from the bracket leaving the bracket in place to hold the brake line (or is it the abs sensor wire?). What I want to do is remove the reflectors from the bags. They seem to be just stuck on and not bolted. Anyone had any luck with this? I'm a little afraid of the paint coming of with the adhesive.

Maybe you have a magic search function Ion.....I typed in reflectors in the search fieldbefore posting and now again: NADA useful

Wha, wha, WHAT?! You removed your reflectors?! Now you've done it, the DOT's gonna send it's SWAT team in after you! That crime is worse than ripping the tags off mattresses!

Sheesh, some people never learn!

:****:

Once (one, singular, 1, sole time) my FJR self retracted the side stand and went over. It hit on the handle bar end, the TOG and the reflector on the left bag. Damage = 0. I luv my dorkey reflectors.

Ahh, rookie. ;)
Here is what you are looking for: Reflector Removal You will have to scroll part way down the page.

Thanks Ion, I had heard the trick of floss with heat years ago but never tried it. Still not sure if I'll take them off the bags after reading your post of how the reflector saved your bag in the ONE tip over you have ever had. :D

Actually the questions I had asked were: Should I put the bracket back on the left front side sans reflector to support the cable, or do I need to bother? And do I need to torque the bolts or is a snug tightening good enough? Thanks to all for the advice to this Rookie :)

Floss won't scratch. Glide (a brand of floss) works great, it will even leave your bags smelling minty clean. Glide also ain't too shabby when used for intended purpose either ;)

Next to duct tape and WD40 in versatility is ZIP TIES. Remove the front reflector bracket. Loosely zip tie the ABS cable to nearest convenient object, prolly the brake line. Make sure that there is enough slack for movement as the handlebars are turned lock to lock. The sans-reflector bracket mod makes changing tires ever so much easier.

do I need to torque the bolts or is a snug tightening good enough?
Well, hmmm yes, tightening is a good thing. To torque or not depends on the bolt. I didn't quite get your mental picture of exactly which ones you were referring to. This here is Rad country B)

Thanks Ion. I think I have some black zip ties around.........

...who of course only get them after I add a nominal handling fee, bogus customs duties etc. .

Not a bad bidness...thanks folks, unscrew away.... B)

Note that ChrisG snuck in a question and that is what I quoted and answered combined with some of your questions.
One true thing about his Forum, every thread gets twisted, hijacked, distorted and perverted. Mostly fun, sometimes distracting, occasionally frustrating. When you do a search for a particular topic you may find the answer in some threads with titles that don't look at all appropriate for the issue  It is supposed to be a sign of a good conversation when the topics flow and change. Or, is that a sign of a deranged minds

I think he's refering to the brake caliper bolts. I personaly torque these properly, but whether or not you trust your brakes "snug" is up to you.

Ion -- thanks. I figured I just didn't dig deep enough after getting gently slapped for not doing enough research. :( Thanks for putting up with my "newbiness". :D

Slappy -- yes it is the brake caliper bolts. Any suggestion on torque value (before you say anything, I just can't afford a manual yet).

What I decided was to put the bracket without reflector back on the left front side (SNUGLY :) ) during my lunch break. When I have more time I'll probably take it off and cut off extraneous metal to clean up the look, and touch up with some black rustoleum or something.

Again, I appreciate everybodys help on what is a small matter to most, but it has been valuable to me.
