Looks like you're gonna git your *** kicked hard. Hopin' you all make it ok. I never did completely trust Russky wimmins anyway, turn on ya faster than old bologna...Good luck.

I've got a number of aunts, uncles, and cousins who live in and around New Orleans who are headed to Texas.... hope there is something for them to return to by mid week....

They're putting the carless folks (told ya buses suxors!) in the Superdome. The only reasoning I can figure on that one is that it'll be easier to collect the bodies. <_<

I heard a rumor that the Stupordome (intentionally mispelled) has a detachable base, so once the water rolls in, they'll just float away like Noah's ark, and wind up on Mt. Ararat.

save the D-DAY MUSEUM! Hope all goes well. I ride the Natchez Trace parkway to N Oleans once in awhile.Great trip.Interesting city.

I was in Venice, La. yesterday morning completing quality, environmental and safety audits for my company at our warehouse there. The levee rises perhaps 20' above the road for maybe 20 miles as you approach Venice. The manager there said he's seen the Mississippi rise to within 5 feet of overflowing the levee a few times in 20 years. Looks as if this might be one of those times.

Based on what I can see from the road going to Venice, lots of people live in trailer houses there, as this area doesn't have a high income level as other parts of the State. I feel for those folks, as they will take the brunt of the storm surge and wind as the hurricane comes ashore. First thing tomorrow morning, I'm going to organize a fund for the people in our company that are displaced from their homes. Looks to me as if not many will have anything to go back to.

If you have companies in the New Orleans area, look into what you can do to help your employees out in the coming weeks and months.

I'm sure glad I was able to get out well in advance of the storm; many will not be as fortunate.

Can you guys hype this storm anymore then let's say..., the Today Show?

From SNOWMONKEY:

"Can you guys hype this storm anymore then let's say..., the Today Show."

What I assume you meant to type:

"Can you guys hype this storm anymore than let's say..., the Today Show?"

My response:

Absolutely right SNOWMONKEY, we're all tired of hearing about non-FJR1300 issues on this site. No one could possibly care a bit about any non-FJR1300 related problems or concerns posted here. I think I did, however, choose the correct topic heading. "Completely Off-topic Discussions". I didn't post in a general forum topic, so your patience with my comments is appreciated. My comments were not intended to be preachy or to imply that I had any first hand knowlege, or even a valid point of view. At least I didn't get flamed!

You can get back to the "Which oil is best?" topic now; I've had my say.

Jesus but those people are hurting. The degree to which this has destroyed the Big easy and so many surrounding communities is incredible. The wife and I made a donation to The Salvation Army to help. I might humbley suggest putting off the next farkle, and donating the money instead. Those folks are hurtin' more than I, or probably anyone here, can begin to fathom.

damn fine idea, radman.I'll do it. Any aid comin from the UN or other countries yet? hee hee hee I read where 16 of 17 PRIVATE agencies helping N Orleans out are FAITH BASED. Spose N.O.W. is the other one? hee hee hee I'm going to get the wife to donate now. Red Cross work?

Yahoo's home page has gobs of places to donate to,to help N OrLeans .

maybe the fjr community as a whole could post-pone gatherings and such in a gesture to help save fuel and send our hotel monies to charities...

ask some of our members that know a bit about public relations to show that bikers will help those in need... maybe tie-in with yammie in cypress to bang the drum????

just an idea from one powerless to help person at a loss on how to help...

Ya know, I'm sending off some cash tomorrow, but we're all gonna need some help soon.

I hate to be a Negative Nelly, but my internal sonar is pinging some big problems under all that water down in the gulf states. My fear is that the hit to the gulf coast is gonna put the entire economy in the *******, but quick. That ***** of a storm has put 60% of the nations refineries in the toilet and that's gonna hurt. Big time. This will impact the whole economy to an extent we don't yet know.

We have 25 billion in losses estimated so far, there's gotta be a million or more jobs wiped out, not to mention the millions of poor folk that need food, shelter and medical assitance, plus the impending looting and violence that will need to be controlled. Then, how many insurance companies will collapse? How about the folks without the proper insurance? Hell, this isn't even the tip of the iceberg, either. This chaos will extend much further to the north than the gulf areas, too. I feel for the locals directly affected, but within 6 months the brown matter will hit the rotating blades of fate...

Batten down the hatches, folks. We're in for a bumpy ride... And don't pray to whatever god you subscribe to for a different outcome. Cuz if there was one, there wouldn't have been a storm called Katrina... just my own feeling...

Oh, and one final thought; I haven't heard any of our world neighbors offering to assist. Funny, that.

i feel twn is on target...

only thing he left out was oppertune terroist attacks to really throw us off... i can just hear those that hate us saying: praise alla, americans are hurt, let's kick them while they're down...

but, god love him, baby bush is staying the course... just like every other business he's run into the ground...

can you say 'great depression, part 2'??

That's right it's Bush's fault.... whatever  . Nice defeatist attitude by the way.... things would be much better in the world if we left Iraq right now and let Darwinism take over..... uhhhhh not.

Would be refreshing to see just one ******* thread in Gen Disc not turn into a political bashfest. I mean, ****** eh...... <_<

After my post on the 29th, I dropped off a check with my company's HR department to begin a fund for our employees. In similar experiences in the past, I found I haven't missed the cash I donated in the long run.

I can justify delaying a couple of big mods to the bike for a long time when I think about the problems my co-workers have experienced recently. Two of the four facilities I visited last week were destroyed, the other two damaged.

I thought about several of the comments regarding delaying FJR meets and contributing the monies to relief funds; that's an admirable notion. Holding the meeting with a goal of contribution to a cause may be another way to provide a meaningful focus for the group too.

The way I have decided to respond is to become more involved in Habitat for Humanity as a way of making a more hands-on contribution. For those of us who peck at computers all day long or shuffle paper, I think we miss the direct connection to the products of our labor. Helping folks build (or rebuild) their own homes might be one way to re-establish that connection.

I am mulling over other ways to help that are more long term and more direct. I have a spare room in my home that might be a place someone looking for work in the Houston, Tx. area might be able to use. With lots of people out of work in Louisiana, many will probably head this way.

Forgive the philosophy; its just my way of beginning to make sense of it all, and deciding what might be the most help.
