Eve has a slight condition which has been aggravated by leaning her head to the side to see past my helmet. I've noticed her constantly holding the phone to her shoulder with her head, which I scold her for doing, but she needs some relief and/or a workaround to keep her enjoyment level up when riding.

Trust me, I've seen her drive, and getting her own bike is a deadly proposition, much like me becoming a beekeeper on my days off.

Anybody else have a pillion that has gotten past this issue? It sure wouldn't be much fun to just stare at the back of a helmet, and gazing at scenery doesn't allow for much advance notice of needing to interact with the bike as it follows the road.

Do the noble thing. Leave her, you sorry *** pain in the neck.

just kiddin. :D Seriously though, has she sought medical diagnosis for the root of the problem? I too was experiencing the same type symptoms. I had the permanent 'pain in the neck', kinda like a 'crick'. This was a problem while riding and holding the phone with my shoulder also. Eventually, it just kinda stayed all the time. I finally went to the Dr. Exrays only showed possible problem, but nothing definative. I was then sent to the dreaded MRI. Diagnosis: Calcium deposits INSIDE vertibrae 3,4,5,& 6. putting pressure on the nerves. Additional symptoms were tossing and turning while sleeping and waking with numbness in shoulder or arms.

The treatment was a succession of 3 epidurals in the neck (done while asleep). I have had 2 of the series with one to go. The treatment is hoped to provide relief for up to a year or so and then would have to be repeated. Additional treatment is a daily regimen of Naproxen anti-inflamitory.

WHAT a difference. I now ride virtually pain free and am much more comfortable at all times.

Geez Bob,

Buy a Gold Wing with the big ol' lazy boy seating, mount a 7" dvd player on the rear of your helmet, wire in your stem mounted camera an...PRESTO problem solved!

Actually the wife took a msf course and I spent several weekends thinking my bike had stalled (or at least needed training wheels) while she got comfortable on her little rebel. Now shes wanting ride all the time

Guess it wasn't such a good idea as all my ridin' budds have disowned me :(

:jester:

Talk with an OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST. The can offer alternative ways to do things, aids, assists and some times braces to relieve problems as well as recommending physical therapies that can fix the root cause of the problem.

Failing that, here is what my wife does to see around me... Camera platform model: A1 FearlessPillion™

Mount a small portable video camera to the front of your helmet, and a small LCD screen to the back! Problem solved... :D

Either that or set her on a sofa cushion.

Nice pics - steady camera - low speed film judging from the color saturation.

(Please don't tell me it's a digital pocket snappy.)

Taller rear seat?

Shorter husband :)

How about the helmet? I just recently bought a new helmet, went from a shoei to an HJC, and the balance on the HJC seems much better. They are not terribly different in weight but the HJC feels much lighter, probably because its new. Not to be brand specific, but HJC now is offering a carbon fiber helmet which is 1424 grams for an adult medium, versus 1600 grams for the traditional polycarbonate shell which I bought.

So to get off the HJC kick, look for weight, balance, aerodynamics - might help.

Or

FJR sidecar

Here ya go, Bob. Even acts as a safety device in the event of a get-off...

Look for it at a BMW or KTM dealer near you in the future.

Have Eve keep her head and spine aligned for correct posture whenever possible on the bike. I got my wife a portable XM Sat radio to occupy her instead of always trying to look around me....though now if I'm plugged in she's always changing the channel.....they get bored so easily.

Hey Ionbeam my wife looks over my shoulder like that too but when that needle thingy is straight up or to the right I get a wicked pain in my right shoulder What's that about??

If the pain is lower than your neck and higher than your...well, you are sitting on it, the most likely problem is lack of armor. Carry on.

Dunno whatzup with Fearless Pillion, she rides with me when I go autocross racing, goes down the drag strip with me in my car and flies with me. Fearless also has done three phase eventing for many years. Three phase eventing is a horsy thing, what superman was doing when he forgot how to fly and broke his neck.

This or sit backwards. My brothers and I had a riot doing that in the BelAir Wagon, a plus being the ol' man had to pull over to whack us. She can give truckers the finger and everything! :D
