His positive battery cable was laying atop of his post for a month and 500 plus miles with but one hitch.

It was more like 1000 miles, actually.

And it wasn't really 'laying' on top of the post - the cable terminal was kinda wedged in there along with all the other crap I have attached to the positive battery terminal. I just managed to not get the screw through the hole of the cable terminal to actually secure it.
