I got to climb a 200 foot cell phone tower once. (Yes, I had permission and invited by the builders)

I know anything over 20 feet will kill you if you fall and this video is an EXTREME tower, but yeah...it was kinda like that. Ours was external the whole climb with with a running safety cable and rungs were connected on both ends...however I learned that you climb up the tower AND you climb down the tower. My legs were about to buckle on the way down.

One of the guys working would detach his safety line and do pull-ups off one of the outer arms dangling above the ground and make the whole thing sway about 6 or 8 inches...........whoa.

The type of tower we were one was a two piece unit that the top would slip over the lower part and just be a friction fit. Usually a few days after installation when they've put a bunch of extra weight on the top mast....the whole thing will slide down into it's final resting place. They say that suddenly dropping 2 inches for no reason when you're 200 feet up....is like having a mini heart attack.

These guys have a cool...and scary job!

I'll never ***** about changing the light bulb in the garage door opener again. Could you imagine--hey-the lights out on the beacon. Go change the bulb...

God! I hope I don't have nightmares about falling tonight...probably will now and wake up with sheet in my drawers! Why the hell do they wear helmets? What good is that gonna do?

I'll bet those boys skip stopping at Starbuck's on the way to work! Geemakneefrikinchristmas! What a way to put food on the table!

HOLY CRAP.

I'm gonna change my shorts now and watch the rest of the video after they get my heart started again. Be back in a few...

I have no problem with heights, as long as I'm enclosed in a building or a Cessna...this is just nuckin' futz! I used to be a broadcast engineer, but we never climbed the towers, we got guys like these to do it. Just really fearless. Better them than me!!!!

NO FRICKIN WAY would I climb that thing! Bad enough changing out a damn light bulb, think about the guys who put it up in the first place!
