Just got back from a back packing trip to Big Sur and the Ventena Wilderness, we hiked back 7 1/2 miles the first day to Barlo Flats right on the Big Sur River spent the night there then after breakfast the next day hikes out 2 miles back ti Terras creek and stayed there the next night then hiked out to the car the last day. Other than the noise of the river and the creek the only other noise we heared was a prop job plane at 7 pm each night. It was a first for two of us but I done it as a kid and in the military but to be able to go buy the new gear was great but sure was a dent to my wallet over 800.00 total on top of the FJR since January  . Was alotr of fun and planning our next trip now, it sure looked funny with my new pack on the pillon seat was quite a wind drag as well because I can make it home before it starts blinking but even with it topped off it still was blinking 3 miles from home. :) :D My pack weighed 38lbs with the stuff for three days could have gone longer as I brought home food.

A 38 pound pack for 3 days??? Man I gotta hook up with you to get some pointers. I'm usually 60-70 pounds...of course I'm usually packing some of the group equipment for the scouts (boy scouts).
