A good friend just emailed me and I got a ticket for THE RIDE of CHAMPIONS. This is a ride on the Moto GP track at Indy. I am sure they wont let us run balls out but I still get to ride the track :yahoo: :yahoo:

Now I guess I will have to ride My CBR1000rr and will leave the FJR at home.

No, no. You take the sport bike and you'll be just like everyone else on the track. Take the FJR and do a lap with all the luggage on. :clapping:

I had a chance to buy a weekend ticket and also ride the track.

Hate to burst your bubble, but it'll be a parade lap at 35 mph. Considering how many hooligans will be there, I'd ride the FJR. Those side bags make good bumpers.

A couple years ago I did a parade lap around the track with several thousand Harleys. I laid back in the pack a little (riding two by two, next to, and in front of a buddy), and when I got onto the front stretch near the pit wall.... away from prying eyes (out of view of MYRIAD STATE TROOPERS ALONG THE TRACK, ON THE TRACK), I got a nice little wheelie.

I'd still recommend you ride the IMS, even though it ain't no hot lap. Riding the track is sweet. Have a blast!

Oh, and I also hope for your sake that I'm completely wrong about the 35 mph. Could be something totally different for MGP, but I wouldn't hold my breath or anything. Fingers crossed for ya!

I anticipate a rather slow lap. I might try and shoot past the front and haul ass Whats the worst they can do throw me out. This is on saturday so I should still get to the race on sunday if Im not in jail.

If this is a parade lap... it'll be slow, and you'll be really frustrated by most of the other bikes that take the corners w/o leaning more than 5 degrees. At Barber, I behaved on the straights, but wanted to scrape a peg around some of the corners... didn't happen. Just ride the track with the intention of understanding what the racers will face. The elevation changes will be an eye opener.

I rode the parade lap at VIR with bags and top case on. There was every kind of sport bike there but the pace car ran 45 so we dropped way back. Then kicked it in the ass one time around 80. It was fun but one time is enough.

That was kind of what I was thinking might work.

1. Bring your rain gear. :(

2. Ride the FJR.

3. You're better off lagging behind than shooting up to the front. You can drop back a little on the straights and get to enjoy the corners at least a little. (This works at Deal's Gap, too :) )

it was my understanding the parade lap was on monday. there was a group buy on the fj list, you got group seating, parking, etc.etc., and got to do a parade lap. after a bunch of people ordered, those in charge in indy advised the parade lap would be on monday. i didn't feel as bad for not ordering a ticket when i heard that. i wonder if they have different schedules of parade laps for different groups?

Even with potential low speeds, sounds like good fun. I say run the bagger. First install extral long foot peg dragger thingieabobs so you can show sparks around ALL the corners!

Idid the ride on Saturday it was good just to get to ride that track. No high speed though mostly 45-65 mph. I took the CBR100RR I am staying here in Indy tonight. Weather sucks.
