Well, I formally introduced my FJR to someones driveway and a lot of mud.

Totally my fault, I was riding behind a pickup pulling a large trailer. The trailer blocked my view, but I could see there was no oncoming traffic so I passed him. As I passed him I realize that not too far ahead is a nasty left turn. I see through the brush that there is a car coming from the other side of the curve, so I immediately get back into my lane and start braking hard. I almost slow down enough, but having to get back into the right lane and then take a hard left just didn't give me enough time for the speed I entered the turn. I get about 1/4 way through the turn when I think the target fixation on the ditch ahead set it. I don't know if I could have made the turn, but I stood it up and hoped I could just ride through the grass and decel safely. All is well, I'm off the road and my wheels are straight, then I hit a drivewy, the bike goes down and I go flying over the handlebars.

Here's the reslut.

apparently frame sliders don't work on mud and grass.

Now the only thing that really concerns me. Look how off center the tire looks.

I rode it home though, with no wierd wobbling or pulling. Felt absolutely fine up to speeds of 40.

I'm going to try to get all the parts from ebay, and have them painted. Anticipating between 1500-2200 to fix most of this. I will do all the labor of pulling parts and putting it back together. Just hoping its all cosmetic at this point.

Alright, now when do I get my crash club t-shirt!!!!!!!!!!

Oh does anyone know if the front fender from an 03 will fit the 04?

Another one bites the dust. :dribble:

Add another owner to the story of how the FJR suckered him into believeng the siren's song, "I can do all things. Trust me, go ahead and twist the throttle and see what I can do. You are a motorcycle God and completely invincible. The laws of physics don't apply to you while you're riding me." heh-heh-heh-heh..... <_<

I'm glad to hear that you aren't injured (Pride doesn't count!). IIRC, the '03 fender will fit on an '04-'05. The part numbers are different because of the color change. The forks are the same w/ different springs.

Keeeeeith!

Man! So sorry to hear about the gitoff!

Glad YOU are okay!

Didn't notice how much, if any, plastic parts were scraped up. But I learned this about the Feej's plastic. Use Epoxy primer. Either the base color or the base primer does not like many enamel finishes. You have to completely seal your repairs or edges will lift.

Oh, and only a suggestion... Why don't you get the girlfriend to sand the edges. It will make you feel better!

:)

2 pieces of advice:

#1: completely dis-assemble all the damaged stuff before you order parts.. you'll find stuff you never expected to be damaged.

#2: check MR cycles in Asheville, NC. Call and ask for Steve, (800)359-0567. I got a lot of parts new for near the price of ebay parts, probably the same by the time you combine shipping.

Dang, dude. Maximus suckimus, for sure. I'm wagering you bent the seat frame, which is why the wheel looks off. Looks like that left can took a major hit and shoved **** right.

Glad you're ok.

Glad to hear that you didn't get hurt. Could have been much worse. Look the entire bike over very carefully, especially the frame, to make sure nothing is cracked or twisted before you start spending money on replacement parts.

I think the forks are different between the '03 and the rest of the first gen bikes due to the brake mounting points. The '03 has smaller rotors.

Hey man, sorry to hear an good Kentucky boy went down. Glad it was just the pride and plastic that was hurt.

+1

Have used MR Cycles for years. Their prices are always good & shipping is reasonable.

P.S. Glad your OK!

Glad you're ok. We take longer to fix than the bikes do. You've got to stay on the hard stuff when you crash next time. That soft stuff will tear the bike up! I had less damage on my '04 from a 40 mph pavment/snow lowside than you have. Of course, the bags took some of the damage on mine.

Good luck with the repairs and get back on the road soon.

Well, thanks for all the advice and comments. I'm glad to be o.k. All and all I just hope it's mostly cosmetic. I don't have comprehensive collision, so if the frame is bent, I'm gonna be pretty sad about that. I just don't want to lose my FJR, I love this bike. I wouldn't mind putting money into it to repair, the bike only has 8100 miles on it! But if it has frame damage, is it even worth it to start pouring in money? Sadly, I think I know the answer to that question. The bike will go to my mechanic tomorrow to start assessments on frame and other damage. It really did feel fine while riding it home, so I'm gonna remain optimistic until I hear bad news.

Holy cow! That doesn't look good at all. Glad thet you aren't hurt! That looks pretty severe f/ an off roader. I'd just think it'd be easier on the plastic & you alike. A couple of years ago I did less damage than that on the pavement performing a classic low speed high side.

Good luck w/ the assessments & possible repair,

Heidi

Keith,

I pain for you and glad you are OK. Our prayers to the frame gods for your favor.

PS I hope you mean you didn't have collision and not comprehensive insurance...comprehensive is a steal if you don't.

Good Luck!

Just curious, are these waves in the frame on all 04 fjr's? I noticed this while looking at the bike, but there is a matching one on the right side as well.

I think it is supposed to be there, but I still think the framing around the seat is not in good shape.

Sorry to hear about your crash. :( Be sure to post a list of the parts you need when you figure them out. There are many great people here to help. :)
