I have a small tid bit of info on the install of the "cut" R&G frame sliders. I received the sliders a week ago and decided to put them on. Read the directions and proceeded. Did the white paint thing as the instructions stated, but the paint way didn't provide me the perfect round circle of the bolt head to drill. Well now I have a delima, as I am not overly mechanically inclined, I didn't want to mess the plastic up by drilling a hole in the wrong spot. Then I saw the light, a laser pointer. I removed the plastic, set the laser on a stand with a level so it lined up directly in the center of the bolt hole, replaced the plastic, marked it with a fine sharpie, and presto, I have my initial drilling point. Drilled the pilot hole then the larger hole with the hole saw. I checked everything out and it lined up perfectly. Did the other side the same way and it worked out beautiful. So if someone else is planning to put on the R&G "have to cut" frame sliders, there is an option for the install. I hope this helps someone else.

This is a great idea! I put a set of "cut" sliders (different brand) on my '05 earlier this year. I wish I had thought of the laser pointer idea. I had each fairing on/off 4-6 times marking, drilling pilot holes, checking alignment, etc.

Nicely done!

Unless you REALLY screw up the location, the body of the slider is larger than the fairing hole and will cover small out-of-round or oblong errors. Micrometer precision is not required here.

wfooshee, I would agree with you except that I really didn't want to butcher the fairing and I am a bit of a perfectionist. I guess I 'll say instead, I try not to make mistakes because I don't have a disposable income, so I try to to research different ways to see which might appear to be the best way. The way R&G described with the paint on the bolt head didn't work well for me as I found where the fairing is curved the paint on the bolt head didn't give me a round area to drill. I'm sure that their way does work fine, I just needed a bit more of a concrete for my liking.
