Anyone know where I might be able to see an offical pinout of the connector to the instrument cluster? I'm not really sure on the different manuals that are available. I'm looking to jack into some of the signals going to the cluster like heat, speed, mileage, fuel consumption, etc.

The wire colours are unique, if you have a workshop manual (OEM or Haynes), this should be sufficient to identify which is which.

However, I think many of the functions you want are encoded within a communication system, and would be difficult to interpret.

^^^^ I'm with MC on this.

The communications between the ECU and the Meter Assembly is on a single wire via digital serial communications. Basically, the ECU sends out an address (series of 1s and 0s on the single wire) which tells the Meter Assembly where to use the information that is about to come. Then the ECU sends the data, a stream of 1s and 0s that contain the value the Meter Assembly should use for that address. Then the Meter Assembly tells the ECU that the data received was valid via yet more 1s and 0s (assuming the data was in fact error free). Repeat this cycle for each of the Meter Assembly displays plus the tach and spedo needles.

Repeat this sequence in an endless chain until the key is switched off.

You may jack into this signal wire if you want. You will impress the heck out of me if you can use the display's digital update data quickly, easily and just for fun ;)
