Hi to all

Over the weekend i noticed a instrument light out so as it was raining all day saturday i thought i'd attack it, go down to the auto store and grab a replacement bulb do the refit and all sorted. Not that easy.Without looking on the forum for info before hand i removed A,B,C and D panels (i think we call them) thinking just unscrew one bulb and refit another.Done. After of course having no such luck there i guess i should check the forum which as you know those of you who have had the instrument panel out is not that simple.Found out what i needed to do(thanks guys) So anyway off came the fairings, followed by the cowling and there we have it.One instrument panel.Next undo the 3 screws that hold it to the frame followed by the 10 screws holding the rear panel on and yes,acess to the bulbs.Ok....9 bloody small mini bulbs for everything other than the indicators which there are 2 of course so thinking just replace the illumination ones (4of) off i drove to the auto store. No can do anywhere in town.Bloody marvellous, bike in bits and no bulbs anywhere to be found. ring the bike shop monday morning and he tells me they are ex Japan 2 weeks. By the way bulbs i need are 12v-80m/a. Ring another Yamaha dealer and he has 4 bulbs but they are 12v 2 watt so he tells me. Reckons they will fit the bulb holders.Question to you guys......Will they be to bright??? or should i just run with these.Two weeks without the bike would be torture.

Regards

Gaz

Many of us have replaced the OEM instrument panel backlight bulbs with LEDs so that we never have to do that ridiculously PITA procedure ever again.

Info here

Considering the fact that one watt is 1000 mA.. Going out on a limb here an saying yes.

I would go ahead and use the 2 watt and order LED replacements for all of them. Blind squirrel left a pile of extras here last spring and I replaced all with them.

Considerably brighter and several times the lifespan if the incandescence's they replaced.

Wow Fred, yer a fast bugger.

:huh:

Ummm, no...

1000ma = 1 amp. 1 amp x 14 volts = 14 watts.

A one watt bulb should only draw 71 ma (.071 * 14 = 1) and a 2 watt bulb would draw twice that, or ~ 142 ma.

Either way, not a lot of current.

I only changed the backlight lamps to LED, as did ignacio. (see my link above)

The other lamps aren't actually "on" enough of the time to worry about them burning out. YMMV

I've got one backlight left after two more blew last weekend. Another winter project.
