I'm driving down with all the tools for that.... as there will be multiples being worked on, would help if there's a few extra 4mm, 5mm & 6mm hex drivers, spare wire, spare sockets for wheel removal (22 & 27), zip ties, shop rags, a few cans of Walmart brake clean (to flush forks). All should be responsible for helping Mike contain all the drained fluids for proper disposal...... should have drain pans for coolant, oil, fork oil and empty jugs. Clean up antifreeze spills so the pets don't get into it........ and any other shop rules Mike has.....
I'll be sure to bring some hex drivers, wiring goodies, and sockets.

Crap... I'm out. I was just reminded that my 'rents are going to be visiting that weekend on their migration north.

I'm still in. I'm sure I wouldn't have any trouble finding a place to stay around there. I was thinking about heading up 62 myself. I drive that route a lot for work. Not a bad ride. The scenery is actually a little better than the road itself. For the tech part of the trip, I was considering a valve check, but El Toro Joe talked me out of it. Maybe lubing the spines of the shaft drive? Or maybe just observe.
You mean somebody actually listens to Joe?

A valve check requires forethought.... like arriving the night before so the bike is cold, O-rings for your coolant pipe as a coolant change is required, consider WynPro blockoff plates so we can remove the PAIR system..... how many miles you got on that rig?
26K on her now. I was aware of the other tidbits you threw in there. :)

Hmm... how hard is a fork oil flush/change? Haven't ever done that either... nor changed the coolant. I just ride it and change the oil once a year. Oh hey, I have some new horns that would be good to install as well... and a right hand mirror to swap.
I better check with the mistress of the house and see if I actually have a pass for this before I get too long a list going.
Mileage please, it helps with decisions...... coolant is a bit messy, better if timed for your next valve check. Mileage will determine if you should replace fork bushings & seals while we're at it.

Geezer, if your bushings don't come, I have a set.

FJRPittsburg - I'd personally push that valve check out another year maybe, but if you want to do it, we'll do it.

About 19k... but I'm not going to be able to make it anyway.

Should do it now myself, or am I good to wait for another tech day?

Will we have the ability to suspend the bike for maintenance of the center-stand and relay arm? If so, should I order new bearings and seals for the relay arm? This is the list from the FJRTech.Net article:

2 Bearings 93315-31759-00

4 seals 93109-17071-00

1 bottom bearing collar 90387-127W0-00

1 top bearing collar 90387-102R4-00

Last time I checked I don't think I need the bearing collars, but I destroyed the wax or plastic bearing retainer, and manually packed in grease. All the pivot points are sticking since fording the water at the SEO Ramble.

Tom, I've got something rigged up with ratchet straps to hold off the front end while I've got my front wheel off, but not sure what to do to levitate the whole bike...might be able to come up with something safe

I think Ray might be coming in Friday night to help me get my forks off the bike for a flush on Saturday (oh, that means I'll be using that rig I mentioned above, doesn't it? Hmm, we'll have to head-scratch on that Tom).

Cool. Thank you.

Are people planning to show up Friday evening? I have unlimited vacation days.
Is there a difference between bushings on a Gen 1 and a Gen2? If so that might be a problem
The part numbers are the same for the bushings for Gen 1 and Gen 2. The difference is that the Gen 2 has two each of bushing (slide 2) and one each of bushing (slide 1) in each leg while the Gen 1 only has one of each bushing in each leg.

Well, I thought I'd throw it out there. I'll eventually figure something out if the tech meet can't do this one. I'm going to do the brake and shifter pivots tomorrow.

Ray,

I'll hold off on the coolant change for now,

So if possible:

1. TBS

2. check head stem bearing torque,

3. Flush forks and install new springs

The forks will be done by jacking up under the exhaust headers...... rear pivots can be done by lifting the back end only and a wheel chock I'll bring. Tom, if the center stand has not been off before, we'll have fun getting the two bolts out just inside the exhaust pipes. I had cut mine off and put new ones in the opposite direction so removal next time is easy....... I don't have any spare bolts......

I'd wait on forks, however, since coolant is aging, probably should do that if it's 5 years old....... most coolants these days are good for 5 years but the anti-corrosion additives get used up.

Geezer - fork bushings and seals

Wnfjr - fork oil flush, lube drive splines

pista - TBS, drive splines, steering head, fork flush & springs, coolant (did we decide at Owosso that we'd leave that for a valve check?)

EmmtBt - Canyon cages, fuse panel & wiring, I'd like to check sag readings on the GenIII A for education purposes.

chivvalry - oil change (need oil & filter), drive splines

FJRPittsburgh - valve check? (need o-rings), drive splines

TominCA - Suspension pivot service/bearings

I have extra coolant, will bring some.

I can make the trip to Eden for Friday night to help out with some of the preliminary work if you don't mind putting up another Canuck for an extra night.

Since Eden has a Timmy's it won't be too much of a hardship for me.

I don't have a flag pole to put the Canuctistani flag on though...Ah what the hell, once one Canuck gets a foot in the door, the battle is lost anyway!
