^^^^^ I was a few months from graduating when "that" Tar Heel basketball team came to Atlanta's Omni to play Tech. My infant son, less than a year old, was in a baby carrier tucked against my chest for that game. I enjoy reminding him that he and I saw Michael Jordan play basketball.
Don't forget: HOF player James Worthy was the power forward on that team, and won Helms Foundation's Player of the Year for 1982! I remember the summer of '81, the talk of Chapel Hill was that Dean Smith had recruited this awesome freshman. Of course, it was later said only one man could keep Michael Jordan under 30 points a game...and that was Dean Smith!

Welllllll, Both Iowa and North Carolina lost tonight. Both games were close, though. I thought UNC would either pull off the upset or be blown out, not lose on a blown official's call. Still Clemson was obviously the better team despite repeated bone-head errors--fake punt, intentional hits. The Carolina bone-head errors were the coach's fault: Idiotic 1st half 2 point try, calling a fake punt. Still, a TD and a SUCCESSFUL 2 pointer would have tied, but for that last blown offsides call.

Clemson's now the only undefeated team in the nation. It will take incredible and inane arrogance for the committee to NOT seed them as #1. Personally, IMHO, I don't think ANY team with 2 or more losses should be considered for the Top 4.

But what do I know?

Sorry your Hawkeyes didn't win...but I like Sparty too. I can't say that too loud down here where a lot of gun owners are Tiger fans.

Agree 100%

Stanford was 10-2… so was Northwestern. Northwestern beat Stanford 16-6

Iowa beat Northwestern 40-10 and is now 12-1

Watch Stanford jump Iowa in the rankings, and why were they ranked #7 while Northwestern was ranked #14 in the playoff rankings?

and Oklahoma gets rewarded for having no conference championship game?

I guess whoever has the hot hand at the end of the season gets the forgiveness of their season with 2 losses.

I like Michigan State's chances in the play off.I think another sleeper team from the Big Ten is going to surprise some folks.

Oh, I don't give much of a tinker's damn about any Big 10 team other than Northwestern. I just thought an undefeated Iowa would make it clear that Clemson and Iowa should be #1 and #2.

With you 100%. NU beat Stanford, got by Duke and Illinois, yet Stanford's ranked #7. Meantime, North Carolina CRUSHED both Duke and Illinois, yet was ranked #10.

Sports people all work about all kinds of measures but having a stats background, I know that a test subject that has NO failures cannot actually be evaluated! IOW, you cannot actually know how good an undefeated team is until...they are beaten.

When I used to have to interview people for a job, I'd test their technical knowledge till I hit what they didn't know. I TRIED to reassure them that not knowing "X" was not going to cost them the job. I just needed to know their current limit.

We KNOW Alabama, Oklahoma, Mich St, Stanford, Iowa, etc can be beaten because they have been. We do NOT know Clemson can be beaten until someone succeeds in beating the Tigers.

To me, all the other stuff about "quality of opponents" is far less compelling. But the top 4 teams are ALL supposed to be capable of beating anyone, ANYONE come New Year's Day. Among the top 4 no win is an upset.

But it hurt to watch UNC lose because a line judge muffed an off-sides call on the on-side kick the 'Heels recovered.
