I called Yamaha corporate today for the 3rd time to find out why my dealer insists he can't get me the heated grips he sold me 3 months back for my '06A. Two exact quotes from one of their professional staff working the phones:

"Heated grips aren't available for either the Fjr1300A or the Fjr1300AE and they don't come as standard equipment on the AE".......

"Its a pretty rare motorcycle evidently"

After explaining to him politely that the AE comes with heated grips and therefore they should be able to supply them as parts, he got off the phone to speak to someone else who came back and told me they can be ordered but "its alot of parts" and I should speak to my dealers service manager about it.

Thanks for all the help....

Well, the part number for the kit is 5VS-W0792-10-00
Thanks.....You gave me more information in one short sentence then the dipshits did in 20 minutes on the phone...

Tstaff, believe me I'm not in a hurry. If you want anything done from this dealer you either have to beg for it or order it 2 months in advance. Unfortunately there are no other competent dealers anywhere near me so I am kind of stuck with them.

Axeman, there are any number of Yamaha dealers you can order from online, including some who advertise on this site. I hear they not only give good, friendly, knowledgeable service, butt they might even give a discount or two to listers.

Absolutely no reason to give your hard-earned dollars to someone who doesn’t treat you well. Well, unless it’s the IRS…

Axeman,

Understand your frustration; however, IMO, well said. Got a kick out of reading your post. :)

Good ole plain talk just seems to get right to the heart of an issue.

Although I found their Customer Service reps friendly, they weren't especially knowledgeable. If you want any real info, you have to get past them to one of the few "Product Specialists".

It took me over 3 weeks to get a few fairing parts and the springs and screws to hold them on. The headlight adjusting knob was going to take another 2 to 3 weeks. I'm lucky the dealer agreed to "steal" them off another FJR that came in after mine.

I'm learning the hard way. I do use the advise of everyone on here and do order from forum friendly vendors but in this particular case the dealer had attempted to install '05 grips on the bike and the harnesses didn't match up. So my choices are to have them install the correct grips instead of the non functioning '05 grips or get my money back from them and still have to have them take the other grips off....Just the thought of them having to touch the bike again completely pisses me off.

Axe,

The amount of time you've spent dickin' around with the dealer and mamayama is probably more the it would take to install your own. Check out fjrtech.com and www.fjr1300.info

Plenty of great advice there about putting Dual-Star heaters under the grips of your choice, not the granite hard Yamaha ones. And you'll save money.

YMMV, my $.02 etc.

You probably should look at the AE model's heated grips before you order all those parts. The right one is built into the twist throttle and to change an A to put on the 06 AE heated ones would definitly require many parts.

I put 05 heated grips (5VS-W0792-10-00) on my 06 A and wired them myself as the wiring instructions they give you are not much help. They work fine and not too hard to install yourself -- you will probably do a better job than your dealer.

Also I didn't put the controller on the perch like they say but put it in the cut-out that is behind the faring glove box from the underside and just epoxied it in (underneith) worked fine and fits. C.R. Just how I did it very simple -- looks fine.

Looks like the heated grip set for the 06 is listed on the Yamaha EU site now, Just figured it will make it to the US site in the near future & you won't need to look up the parts one at a time.

It was my understanding when I paid the dealer for them that the '06 grips, unlike prior years or aftermarket grips, were speed sensitive so they get warmer as your speed increases. Does anyone know if that is the fact?

Thank you all for the links to the other types of grips but I figure since they are already paid for I might as well let the dealer worry about it.

Speed sensitive heated grips ?
Are they kidding ?
In many cases I make the stupid assumption that the "highly trained" individual selling me something actually knows what they are talking about but I am quickly finding out with Yamaha that that isn't the case. In hindsight, if I had realized that this whole heated grip thing was going to be an issue I would have just bought some of the alternatives. So I guess "speed sensitive heated grips" are total BS?

No, no, no! Thery're real. OBTW, when you bring the bike back, we'll replace the blinker fluid as well.

OBTW II, don't worry about the shaft lube, we've already given you one...

I think your wrong in your context here...

Assuming the "you" in the above sentence is the customer, and the "we've" is the dealer, it's the "we've" whose shaft was lubed, prior to using it on the "you". :)

And I bet he didn't even get a reacharound.
