Impressive.

Are there any restrictions on the type/power of the bikes?

I wonder why they do the "outrigger" thing with their feet when they launch

There are different classes for different bikes but, unlike MotoGP, the bikes are mostly stock with upgraded suspensions, chassis, brakes etc. The bikes have either 600cc or 1000cc engines.

The riders claim it's for balance and stability. I wouldn't recommend doing it on your FJR though. :)

Years ago I saw the video V-Four Victory, where you take a lap on a V4 Honda with Joey Dunlop. It's hard to understand his accent, but there's a part where he's banked hard to the right, going through town, and he says that you know you're on the right racing line if your helmet is skimming against the cobblestone wall on the inside of the turn. Amazing stuff.

V4V is on Youtube these days.

Unfortunately, they have one or two deaths every year, 20 since 2000. That's something like 1% of riders. But they know the risks. And, what a spectacle!
