It's A Ticking (part Two)

After being in the shop for a week, the shop finally called and told me to come get my bike. When I got there I asked what the prognosis was. I was told that "at this time the problem is not to the point where tearing the bike apart is warranted, if in the future, the problem worsens, it will be dealt with then". I was assured that the fact the bike was brought in for a noisy valve train is documented with Yamaha. And that is it for now I guess.

I was at my dealer a week ago and mentioned how loud the valve train on the '05 was as opposed to the '04. They listened and put it into their computer. I'm going to check back with them this week. I know mine is not bad enough to warrant a mechanical repair, I just wanted it noted.

I suppose it helps that I was there when they were checking an '03 and one of the salemaen turned to the service writer and said, "Ask Mike, if there's anything going on he'll have the information and can get you the facts." Sometimes it's a good thing to be known.

The tick has got to be pretty loud for Yahama to warrant a repair. Just the way it is. Your dealers not going to tear it down without authorization from Yamaha. If its not very loud, he would have to lie to get it warrantied. Keep your invoice and bring it back in a month. :agent:

Man, this whole FJR-ticking issue is eerily familiar - it's just like the dissolving cams made of milk chocolate in the ZZR1200:

* Problem experienced by a significant minority of owners...

* Dealers deny any knowledge of such issues...

* Difficult to extract warranty service from the mfg...

* Even after repair, same problem frequently resurfaces...

I guess we're just lucky: at 15,000 miles, my '02 ZZR showed no signs of cam pitting, and my wife's '04 FJR exhibits no ticking whatsoever at 14,000 miles.
