devils advocate says, vehicles on right are supposed to yield, correct? I would have been in the left lane claiming position far before, or sped up. Still, ********* they were. But I would have either ridden more aggressively to claim position, or slowed down and let the aggressive mo-fos pass.

Simple, eh? It's so easy to armchair quarterback!

He was able to get past that scary clown in the funny yellow suit riding that butt-ugly blue motorsickle as slow as a turtle. Put the whack-o's behind me is what I always say. And then run for hills!!!!

I saw both coming, and yeah, they may have had the right of way, but the VDub pushed the issue. If I was in a cage, I'd have never tried that, nor would I ever split a group of riders. Just for the record, I did not flip him off. Rather, I simply gave him the 'what the **** are you thinking?!' tap to the helmet. He knew he ****** up when I passed him a looked into his window... He didn't even glance my way. Chucklenuts.

 
Yeah, I was watching the vdub - I got the impression he was taking lane sharing to a new dimension.

I think he was trying to keep up with the Lexus ..

 
Actually, at the point where the VDub passed me, it was my lane, not his. JDog, zoom in on that plate number. I'm calling Johnny Law! :lol:

To Blurry looks like a new car plate best i can see or it a out of state plate

At least he was SHARING and not SPLITTING the lane. The *******. My Harley buds would have had some fun with him. Us FJR pilots are too mellow. Must be all that knitting of quilts n' ****..

Glad you two are OK.

 
Why were you guys out getting passed? :dntknw: It's called a passing lane, not a "get passed" lane....

 
I was gonna say....were you guys going about five mph under post? Clowns.

 
The signs and arrows on the road clearly show the right lane was the one that was ending, and traffic in the right lane needs to merge left. That means that the left lane has the right of way. I see this confusion all the time driving around here. People really don't understand the whole concept of "merging". Many expect the other traffic to "be nice" and make a hole for them. Then if they don't they get all indignant. It is the responsibility of the merging driver to adjust their speed (even if it means stopping) and find a hole in the traffic of the continuing lane. When both lanes attempt to yield you get into some real problems for any following traffic.

In boating rules a vessel with the right of way has a responsibility to maintain his course and speed. In the event of an accident, the right of way captain can be found negligent if he altered his course or speed as it can mess up the other ship's attempts to give way. Obviously once a collision is likely then both parties are responsible to yield way. I know it's a lot different as ships and boats are not able to brake, and are far less maneuverable, but the concepts are the same.

 
Fred, take another look at the vid - you got it wrong. I was in the rear behind jdog as bike #4 and had a pretty good view. Yes, the brand new Jetta (paper plates) seemed to be trying to keep up with the Lexus and used poor judgment on how much safe passing room he had to get past all 4 bikes. Both cages were over the yellow (this was a passing lane). Our speed was prox +10 to the posted 55 limit and were in staggered riding formation as the passing lane ended. That was clearly a bone headed move - note the rise in the road just ahead. This could have ended badly...

Well, all I can see is what's in the video, so you may be right. And I wasn't saying that they weren't being asshats. They clearly were. The swerving left to avoid the bikes was an indicator of that. But assuming that they had been traveling at the same speed as they approached from behind, what was their alternative? They would have had to slow down to allow you guys to merge left.

One point that you made though, just because bikes are in a "staggered formation" does not mean they need to be treated as a single entity. They are still independent vehicles.

I know I only met you guys yesterday, but I thought you might remember me a little longer that 12 hours?? As I recall there were 5 bikes and I was in the rear. I suppose you just forgot about me back there.

Apologies Jeff as this probably occurred before I joined the group at Cold Springs Tavern. We did get passed by by just a couple of cars.
