Around 10:30 yesterday while riding with a group out of Virginia, I joined the crash club. I had ridden 188 miles to join the group and we were backtracking the road I came in on, very twisty. I think my line on a left hand curve was too far to the right and I could not make the turn. I probably could have leaned more and made it but didn’t. I ran into the ditch parallel to the road and ended up on my right side. I sat up and checked for damage, nothing seemed to hurt but seconds later, my right eye went fuzzy and was bleeding.
The rest of the group got the bike out of the ditch, the worst looked to be the right mirror broke with the arm still attached, the windshield popped off and of course some battle scars on the plastic.
One of the guys rode my bike back to the start, a small store and parked it around back. Another took me about 30 miles to a hospital where I got 10 stitches. I think my face shield came off the right side first and then twisted inside the helmet and cut me below the eye or else it was my eye glasses.
I got out of the hospital around 5:30 and went back to the bike, wire tied the windshield on and rode the 188 miles home.
Lessons sometimes are hard to learn, I am lucky in this case. I made a mistake that could have been much worse, this type of thing humbles you.
Edit: I copied this out of a word processor and left off the last sentence.
I really appreciate all the help from the riding group.
