Sumbitch! I forgot to take a pic of the guys riding 2 up!
Again, thankfully, everyone's thoughts were on George's well being. So if there are no pics then I didn;t really ride *****!
So that wasn't you riding on my pus-- pad and it wasn't you holding on to my hips :blush2: ? must be my mistake.

I remember hearing you say that Heidi, thanks. I expected the police to show up in the hospital since I was in motorcycle gear and wearing a helmet it would have been hard to bluff that I fell off the mower.

I just went and looked at the bike. The right mirror could be fixed with parts, just the glass is broke and the thingy that lets it swivel. It is bent down so I have to take it apart and see how it mounts, the mount may be bent. There are a couple gouges on the cowelings that I can live with. Need a set of windshield screws. Very minor stuff.

BTW, my glasses are for reading mainly, I can't see the gauges very well. Distance is fine.

As for riding home, I was starting to stiffen up, my ankle and right chest hurt. I felt I was going to be worse Sunday so I rode.

Funny thing is it stared to rain pretty hard on the way home and I pulled under a gas station awning with a bunch of harley guys, showed them my war wounds, put on my rain gear and left them standing there.

Yeah, fell off the mower 200 miles from home? lol

I am amazed after watching you tangle that bike in that ditch that there isn't anymore real damage. If you're ok with the scratches... we'll be ok with them... & do not ever take a really close look at my bike. It is well ridden.

Nope! No pictures to prove it. It never happened.

Character remember? Character, that's right.

I was four bikes behind you when you had your get-off, we were all flying in a pretty tight formation you should have seen the **** that happen behind you. We all got a chance to practice our emergence breaking procedures, I even checked out my off-road skills as you already know FJR off roading sucks.

After seeing how all the riders re-acted / acted, your self included, I am proud to be in the FJR community.

Jim
I was glad I gave myself the distance that I had being 2 up. It was quite a sight watching you brake hard go off road come back on. I was saying in my helmet "oh ****! keep it up Jim keep it up!" I didn't really see any of the others. My focus was on you. I didn't even see the "Drop Left". I was relieved to see you safely stopped.

I too was very impressed by the overall reaction. Very proud to ride with these folk.

Bob, remember there are plenty of witnesses. You can't talk your way out of that one. Not even with Makers Mark. :p
Just remember that I would do it for you too! Regardless of the harassment! B)

Dude, you were more than 4 bikes behind. There was a huge group of Hardleys between us... us being in the front. I couldn't see you guys through the group.

Dam your right ,I forgot about the Harleys.

They looked packed pretty tight & flying in close formation... as most cruiser riders do.

I really try not to follow closely & know what a danger it can be. If I find myself running up on someone unintentionally, I back off or pass them. the front group was not running tight... but it certainly is fun to do once in awhile if you're riding with known folk that you trust.

If I am running too closely to the person in front, I will not be offended if I'm asked to back off some.

It seems group rides must be more dangerous than solo rides based on the number of crashes reported in this forum.

I guessing that we all ride solo far more than in groups yet it seems to me half the reported crashes involve groups?

Perhaps people are pushed to ride faster than they should?

Perhaps we are distracted, or just showing off?

Perhaps group speed should be based on the least common denominator?

I once did a 500+ mile week long bicycling trip and we were followed by a beer truck (thank you Widmer - damn best analgesic ever), but with motorcyclists perhaps an ambulance should be bringing up the rear?

Get well, I really don't want to crash again, it hurts too much.

Must stay in control, must always keep a reserve, must pay attention, must be aware of what is going on around, ust have an escape route, must trust my tires vs. trusting off road conditions, all while relaxing and having fun.

I had plenty of distance, so stopping wasn't a real problem for me and there was no one behind me close enough to pose any danger. Of course being 2 up one of the reasons I chose to trail the pack.

I had a bad feeling when we pulled out of Duckies and all those Harleys got between us. I think that was the only mistake we made. After that we did smart group riding. The faster bikes up front with everyone running at their own pace. Don't worry about me. I will catch up eventually. After everyone got over the nerves from the wreck we had a great riding weekend with our group.

Rolavine, I sometimes think that you are right on with that statement.

I have some regular folks that I ride with who are no ego mongers & they are a lot of fun to ride with. I MUCH prefer riding with others as opposed to alone... even if I am just putting around town. I am definitely not a loner & that extends into my riding practices.

We weren't riding over our heads on this ride. I think that what happened was just an unfortunate thing that happens sometimes.

As said in a previous post, once some nerves about the whole incident were shook, we had a really good weekend. It was tense for awhile, though.

Maybe my response is sour grapes? No one seems to want to accompany me on my 100 mile round trip commute, and that is all the time I have for motorcycling. Between all the great time sinks that infect a man of my vintage like: spouse, house, yard, and children, It is lucky I work so far away from home.
