Al asked his friend Reaper (John) about a forum member in Nawlins'.

With emails and phone calls, I agreed to sign off Al's Saddle Sore 1000 end of ride paperwork and direct him to a gas station here at the end. I choose a nearby Exxon 24 hour facility since, in the past, closed store / open pumps occasionally are out of paper on the pumps printer which is a bummer when you need the slip for documentation.

Al called me at 8:30pm in Slidell gassing up for directions and suggestion on his end gas station. I met him there at 9:30pm and congratulated him. What a nice guy as any friend of Reaper's is a friends of mine. Reaper and I bonded nicely at SFO.

He was hungry and thirsty and asked if there was a nearby Pizza Hut with salad bar. Yes sir, right on the way to your Hampton Inn Hotel where he's staying the night. He rode 1075 miles or so from Westland, Michigan through New Orleans to my home suburb of Metairie then the gas station just up the road in Kenner. A one way Iron Butt, wow, as I plan a loop from New Orleans to St Louis and back when I do my attempt with Jeff_Q.

Al's 1075 miles started at 4am Eastern and ended at 9:30pm Central. His log showed a start, 4 stops, and an end.

Got a restaurant waiter / employee to take our picture with me signing the paper.

If you check out Al's Ride Map, he only needs Florida to complete his 48 continental US states. He showed me his camera where he stops at each state line on his trip(s) and takes a pic with his bike under the "Welcome to" another state signs.

He's heading east from here to Pensacola along the Gulf of Mexico Beach road which is Hwy 90. When I was a kid in the middle of the last century, there was no Interstate and we traveled hwy 90 to Florida to visit my Grandparents who retired there (my Dad's parents). 55 Chevy Bel Air with no A/C and I slept on the back shelf under the back window. But I digress.

good meeting you Al and have a great trip home catching Florida for your completed ride map.

Man, the dark side of me wanted to steal his '05 ABS.

please ride safe and be careful out there my new friend,

Mike in Nawlins'

I have made a lot of friends on this forum. It is a great place.
yep, but Al wouldn't hear of staying at my home for the night...he had already made a reservation at the Hampton, but I offered a day or two before

course I had to come clean that I had 8 pets that let me live here:

4 dawgs, 1 cat, 2 daughters, and the AIW, so I'm sure that scared him off...but each pet has their own separate room spot to sleep and Al would have the other side of the house (comfortable sofa bed) to himself. Oh well, my home is open to anyone who is hopefully an animal lover and maybe prior Military who implies flexible arrangements. AIW is a great cook and the stay includes meals and snacks. My fridge is your fridge, I always say, but we're tea totalers so no beer etc.

Cheers,

Mike

Mike, if you and others are interested, I just wrapped up my Ride Report. It's in that category on the board. Many thanks again for helping me!

Cheers to you and good luck getting a motor. (And don't think I did not notice that gleam in your eye looking at my FJR on Saturday night!!) :D
