Hi folks, not been on for a while. Didn't you think the Philip Island GP was the best so far this year?

Rossi, who is totally in a class on his own did what he is good at and carved through from 12th to 2nd. Reminds me of the time he was given a penalty flag and docked 10 seconds whilst dicing for 2nd place. What did he do? wound it on and won by 15 seconds. Where was that? Philip Island....it would seem he likes the fast flowing tracks.

What a shame there is no-one to give this guy a race. Stoner is good but not consistent. It will be a looooong time before a Rossi equal arrives. We are truly privelaged to be witnesses to this guy's genius.

Toseland.....my hero. When he got the GP ride I went out and bought a 52" TV. Philip Island was his best ride to date. He was aggresive without being dangerous and as good as anyone out there.....almost. He was passed by Rossi and re-passed him twice...this was whilst Rossi was on a charge to catch Hayden and Stoner. How many can say that they have passed Rossi twice in the same race?.....Not many! It appeared that James had recovered the confidence that he had at the start of the season and on a track that he knew (for a change), he excelled. He was 28 on race-day, it seems old compared to the youngsters, but he has another 8-10 years in the top class. Can't wait for next year....GO JIMBO!

Well done Nicky....always one of my favourites. I wish he could just get it together for that last 5% needed.

WSBK looks good next year from where I am sat. 5 Brits...........and at LOOOONG LAST!!! Elbowz on the world stage!!! This year was good next will be better.

It was Toseland that Dovizioso was whining about... I don't think the whining was legitimate though.

I thought Toseland rode an excellent race myself.

But you do have to give it to Stoner too. He got out front, and eventually pulled away. Nicky gave him a good run, but in the end Stoner had the goods. If the race had been another 5 laps, I wonder if Rossi would have caught Stoner. Nicky might have faded to 8th since his tires were pretty much done.

Stoner is riding with a disintegrating scaphoid at this point. He should get the surgery, but when he has it, it will be 3 months with no riding. He wants to test the new version of the Desmosedici after Valencia, so he's riding until that point.... and I think he is serious about putting in a solid day's work to get 2nd place for the season. It is a worthy goal, and many here would appreciate Stoner's beating out Pedrosa for number 2.

Rossi is certainly an historic figure. It was worth the trek to Indianapolis to see him beat out Agostini for most victories in the premiere class.

Its too early to judge Stoner. The new tire situation next year may throw the whole thing wide open.... but I don't think it will. If tires were the answer, Melandri would be running at the front instead of at the back. There's a lot more to this than tires.

Meanwhile, on this "spoiler" stuff.... It really rags me that we aren't supposed to talk about the race even after the delayed broadcasts. How many people are there that aren't watching the race until a week later? If you're a true fan, you're at least watching the live timing and the delayed broadcast on the day of the race, no? I always did before I bought the subscription to the webcast. Forcing folks to tiptoe around the race discussion reduces the amount of discussion imho.

It's going to be very interesting to see what happens with Nicky on the Duc next year. Could be the best thing that has happened to him (well, 2nd best, the championship was pretty good) or the worst thing. Only time will tell.

Rossi - I think some day we'll look back on this and realize how fortunate we are to be witnessing greatness. Domination at this level doesn't come along too often (how long did Ago's record hold up?).

Toseland - Rode like a man possesed. Very impressive ride

Dovi - your whiny ways will fit in just fine alongside Dani-boy

Stoner rode a great race. Wonder if he would have stepped on his pecker again if that was Rossi behind him rather than Nicky?

The best racing was behind Nicky. I watched the live feed during the race and was very happy that they focused on the battle for 3rd while Casey and Nicky were running away from the pack.

No to derail, but there are people with two little kids, a wife and a job that prevents them from watching a race until 2 weeks later :)

That said. Go Rossi. :)

Do you have a link to it. I heard about it but did not see it. I saw the race and think Brit did an excellent job protecting his spot. I did not see anything that would have raised the red flag per say.

Ditto

People make choices about how to spend their time. The wife and kids don't go away two weeks after a race. They're still there. Its just a matter of prioritizing.

I used to thank people for "finding the time" to come to certain events over which I presided. I eventually realized that no one "finds" time. You have to MAKE time for stuff. Everyone is busy. Everyone has conflicts.

If a guy on the east coast is watching the Philip Island race live at 1 am, its because he is seriously committed to watching the race.

I dunno.... I know we have the custom here of waiting a good while and then labeling the post as a spoiler. It just seems bizaar to me that the guys who are not big enough fans to make it a very high priority are the guys that end up defining the schedule. I suppose this is a worthless rant, and I'm done.

For Randy, Agostini's record stood for 33 years. That's on the same scale as Babe Ruth's record of 60 home runs in a season, and almost as long as the Babe's record of 714 lifetime home runs. Heck... even Hank Aaron's record for lifetime has stood up now for as long.

It is not often that someone has the impact of Rossi, or Agostini, on a sport.

As for Stoner, I wondered if he would have choked had it been Rossi on his tail instead of Nicky.

Dovizioso has not been a whiner this year so far, so I was surprised at his whining after this particular race. He was outfoxed by both Lorenzo and Toseland. I guess it was too much to take.

What ever you say boss. I do not care if I read results before watching it or not. I am still like a little kid in the candy store when I actually get to see the race. To each its own. I am putting my red blanky away before too late :)

Agreed... I thoroughly enjoy watching and following Rossi's masterful displays; and he has (enough of) the necessary showmanship/personality/? for popularity off the track, too -- not always both in the same racer...?

As a friend said (when Rossi left Honda for Yamaha): "Yamaha got a bargain."

As for Ago: it's been said that alot of his victories (especially, when with MV) -- there were years of minimal opposition. But, still a great racer and ambassador for motorcycling. Note: the Nov.(current) issue of Cycle World has a good story about Agostini written by one of my favorite writers, John (Burnsie) Burns.

A partial list of Vale's and Ago's companions: Stanley Woods, Goeff Duke, Sir S.M.B. Hailwood, Barry Sheene.

What's wrong with putting "Spoiler" in the title of your post? Is it really that big a deal?

How many people are there that aren't watching the race until a week later?
I'm sure there are lots. I've not watched a race for a couple of week after it was run on a couple of occasions.

If you're a true fan, you're at least watching the live timing and the delayed broadcast on the day of the race, no?
Not always, no.

Forcing folks to tiptoe around the race discussion reduces the amount of discussion imho.
That doesn't make sense. If, as you say, there are "true fans", then they will be happy to have a "race discussion" regardless of how much time has passed.

I ,being in Australia and only an ahour away from phillip Island had the opprotunity to see the best riders ion the world compete on Sunday.

Credit where its due Casey put on a brilliant show all weekend as usual but didnt fall off this time , Rossi what a master , he is so clinically economical in his approach its amazing , just the difference in his lines etc was a education to watch ( no I am not an all out Rossi fan) , he set out to reel in Hayden who was riding the wheels off the Honda who didnt have the early pace to stay with CS nor the late pace to keep Rossi at bay.

Melandri was on the same bike same team as CS , he looked like he was from a second rate Superbike team , the bike didnt handle at all , so whats the diff between him and CS ??? Talent is the answer.

The team green well they didnt have enough power to race nor a chassis to use the power they had . Toseland rode a great race as all the other riders , I take my hat off to all of em and wish I could get within 10 seconds off the last man on the grid.

The best race of the day was the 250 , man was that close and hard fought.

Next year single tyre rule wont make much diff at the front , Bridgstone will probably win the right to supply IMHO , Casey and Rossi will still be the best riders out there so what will change . Unless the tyre supplier is Cheng Sing or some other brand from Asia no one has used then it wont change much.

Go CS for next year and good luck with the operation its either that or give up bikes.

At the deadline for proposals to Dorna, Bridgestone was the only company that submitted a proposal. It will be odd if they don't get the right to be the supplier. It will be announced during or just after the race in Maylaysia.

No need to tip-toe about anything. Discuss all you like. That's what the section's for. But put a spoiler warning in the thread title so those of us that can't watch it for a few days don't get caught up in news we don't want yet. It isn't that hard to understand. Just let the latecomers know that the thread has stuff they don't want to see yet, then go after it all you want.

Personally, I hate finding out a result before I watch.

And yes, it's a matter of setting priorities and making time for them. Here are my priorities.

My family comes first. Whatever has to be done to keep my wife happily married to me gets done. First. If you knew her you'd know why.

My job is next. I've been there a long time, and sometimes I have to stay there a long time after supper. Things have to be done, but customers have to be happy, too. (BTW, back when IBM actually had a PC dealer channel they supported, we were one of those dealers. For every sale of an IBM PC, all the way through the PS/2 days, IBM would send the customer a survey about the dealer and service experience. My employer was the #1 dealer in that survey two different years. Not the top level, the top dealer nationwide. We were the top level every year they did it. That's the commitment I have to getting my job done, and it points out how high my family commitment is since it's above that.)

When there's time, I call up the Tivo and watch the races.

All that said, having just finished the 250 and MotoGP races a few minutes ago, I though it was a great race, watching Rossi claw through the field. It was good to see Stoner actually keep tires on the bike for a whole race, although just barely at that. And it seems the 250 boys have grown up a little in the last couple of events, nothing like the bashing each other that went on just a couple of events ago.

Best racing of the weekend, though, was the second WSBK race! Just wow!
