It's like Goldilocks and the three bears - my FJR is a bit too big (and not good in the sand) but my TTR125 is just a tad too small.

I've loved the little bike, for learning to ride on sand and having lots of fun. One can enjoy a bike SOOO much more without having to worry about it falling over. My feet really and honestly did touch the ground on the little, kiddy bike. Then I spent a weekend riding with friends, who were all riding grown up bikes. They didn't potter along slowly along the same trails that I always ride. I couldn't keep up. Conclusion: I need a bigger bike to progress.

Did my Internet research, which took me to the Honda dealer, to kick some tires. I liked what I saw, then the smart salesman offered a test ride, which clinched the deal.

I'm now the proud owner of a Honda CRF 230L. Pictures to follow. It's a kick for riding around the neighborhood, weighing in at only 270lbs. My toes will touch the ground but since the bike weighs so little, that's enough.

If...... I had taken it for a ride around the public park behind my house, I would have probably thought it was great but of course I wouldn't / didn't do such a thing.

Counting the (12) days until our next desert trip.

Awesome, Jill!!! :clapping:
Yew tryin' ta mek Tyler jealous, hmmmm?

:clapping: Congratulations on graduating to the next level in your dirt riding! :clapping:

Sooooo many plans to make for the desert.

Did Andy have you buy new color-matched gear, too?

Way Cool Jill!!!

Look forward to pix of you doing table tops, the sissy doubles, and Jill worthy triples.

I'd say a weekend ride is due now. Get Andy and the dogs and head out to the desert and have fun! :yahoo:

Enjoy the new scoot.

LOL! Andy did kinda roll his eyes when I told him that my pink and gray gear didn't work with a red bike. Then he remembered that my first set of dirt gear is red and black. Gotta dust that off ready for the next trip. (He also pointed out the red mesh jacket that I already have.... and.....)

Somehow I just knew.....and I could picture Andy's response....

Way too tall for a vertically challenged female IMHO

Got it in one, Patriot. The very first time I saw sand with two wheels, our hosts had a pair of Honda 230's and a TTR125. The latter was brought along as a token gesture, for the kids. I tried my darndest and couldn't even climb on board the 230. I'm SO vertically challenged that I can't even flat-foot the kiddy bike (and that's with the suspension well and truly compressed).

The 230L has a more modest, 31.9 seat height. That probably sounds low to you guys but I'm on pointy toes there. It's a tad taller than a stock FJR. I'm able to handle the reach with a bit more confidence because of the weight difference.

MCN recently reviewed the Honda, Yamaha and Kawasaki offerings in this class. Sadly, the Honda came out third in most of the categories, BUT it's the only one I have anywhere near a hope of riding, without significant mods. It did have the most comfortable seat and biggest gas tank though!
