So my Feej has ~5k miles on it now (ah, seems only yesterday I was looking at the odo with 23 whole miles on it after getting 'er home from the dealer....). This past weekend I was out on a day ride with some friends and the ass end was doing its best imitation of "slip slidin' away" by Paul Simon... complete with actually sliding. These BT020s suck, and I've read a few places where they get to a certain wear point and just like a light switch - bammo, instant suck.

So, I went with Pilots. I should have them in a couple of days, and a friend has the necessary equipment to mount and balance them.

I rode his FZ-1 with some suspension work and a set of Roads on it and wow... that's a much nicer machine than I ever gave it credit for being. I rode a co-worker's FZ-6 and didn't like it... at all. I assumed - VERY incorrectly - that the FZ-1 was just a bigger, faster version of the same bike. It really isn't.

Anyway, feeling the way turning-in was much more linear and less "fall in" on his bike than mine, he explained that he had BTs on it before and experienced much of the same crap I'm getting now on the Feej. So, hopefully the new sneakers will help - a lot. I really don't like the way it's currently riding and turning-in right now.

It's pretty hard to buy a bad tire these days, but on the FJR, the PR's are my all-time favorite and I've tried most of the common ones: BT020, Avons, Z6s, etc.

Agreed, the PRs are not yet my second choice tire. They may get beat out by the Pirellie Diablo Strada, but even if that happens, I do not regret a single penny spent on the Mich PRs.

Just FYI... My PRs ran fine at 38 and 36 lbs. I weigh 185 lbs. and ride mostly solo with all three bags lightly loaded.

You'll find that the PR's will (well, they do in my case) go Paul Simon, too. It's not too bad, but once I'm through the bars it does get, um, fun. Still, this is my favorite tire so far and I'm about to swap to those new Avon jobbies - whenever they get into PU for distribution - to see how they compare.

The PR's for me were not so good I never got a balance that did not shake above 90mph. The Avons died leaving Reno with a flat and after Mr very cool Harley dude towed me back to Reno on a Sunday I got to pick from Mich Pilot Sports or nothing so I took the sports. I never had a better tire, man can that bike corner with dem sticky ones. With Beth on the back and fully loaded I practically doubled every yellow speed limit suggestion sign from reno through Oregon, the Sawtooth in Idaho , Yellowstone, BlackHills, Missouri river valley, and Southern Indiana. I rode em back and forth to work for 3 months after the trip and then they was all used up :( . 3200miles on em. So i put Avons that FJRGoodies was gonna put on in Reno but ended up shipping to me on, but next I think I want to try the Strada.

Hey..........I'm liking my PR's so far, we shall see how long they hold up:

Most bikes act differently once one is through the bars. One of the reasons I quit drinkin. Bikes were to the point of feeling odd sober.

If you think the 020 sucks, take it easy around the turns with the PR's. They, IMO, are not as sticky as the 020, which isn't as sticky as the Avon.

I like my pilot roads much more than the 020's. They feel good, appear to be wearing better, and are much better in the rain. I was caught in a monsoon while up at Americade, and the bike felt very surefooted. I have them on my FZ1 and like them on that bike as well.

Just goes to show you.....nothing?

Nah...it shows you to buy what you like. I think we all have to experiment and figure out what we like best.

Bingo. For me, the PR's suck major butt cheese. In a straight line, everything is all peachy-keen but lean a bit and you'll get that little sensation of traversing angled roller-bearings. It's better than exlax but not cost effective due to the offset cost of replacement undies. And if that is not enough, any pavement irregularity while leaned throws the bike into movements imitating a sidewinder snake. Of course, some of that snake dancing could be my stock suspension but the bike never displayed the characteristic until this tire. I can't afford to replace them until worn out but I am anxiously waiting their replacement to see what changes in the bikes handling. I am not knowledgeable enough about suspension to make any sort of diagnosis there. Also, judging by the majority of comments concerning this tire, I quite probably just have a poor one. Anyway, it gives new definition to the term "squidly."

Maybe if you had some of that major butt cheese lipoed from your butt, you wouldn't have those problems. :dntknw:

:haha:

Just so you know, Wilbers has a suspension guide available for 20 bucks. You may want to get it because you are correct in your assesment of your suspension settings not matching your riding style and tires. And, being the fat ass that you are, that rear shock is prolly shot (or getting close to) if you have over 15K on the bike.

Fondly,

TWN

I would not mount PR on any of my bikes. had them on my FZ1 and absolutely hatted them. Was sliding my rear all the time. After switching to PS I could not have been more happier.

donaldb, that is a PS on the front, isn't it?

I just hope that my bike that I am waiting for from D&H will have something else then 020 based on what I am hearing here and other places.

Well there's your problem, you mount the things onto the rims, not your head! Sheesh!
