I'll keep this brief. Picked up my new-to-me 06 10 days ago in Oceanside CA. Just returned home to Raleigh, NC today. 3300 miles total. I spent three days in Houston visiting friends so the bike sat unused for those days, otherwise I was riding every day.

Longest day....700 miles. Hottest day....106 degrees. Fastest speed.....127 (corrected by GPS) Highest elevation.....6000 ft.

I'm very thankfull I had the shop install some MCLarry risers prior to the trip. Also installed a Vistacruise throttle lock. I installed the G2 throttle tube halfway thru the trip. Can't really say that it made much of a difference.

Only one "incident" to report. I had a piece of luggage come loose and get tangled up in the rear wheel while doing about 95mph. All I felt was a slight lurch, the engine sputtered then caught again. I thought at the time that this was the infamous "altitude hesitation" so I didn't think anything more about it. About 8 or 9 miles down the road I happened to reach back to feel for my two pieces of luggage. They weren't where they were suppose to be. I pulled over and found that the rear one had slipped off and was shredded and burned. The rear tire was also a bit scorched. I ended up replacing the rear tire with a new one just to be safe. I'll post some pics in a day or two along with a more complete write up.

I just wanted to say that the bike peformed flawless and I found it to be the best bike I've ever owned for pure performance and smiles to the miles.

Yeah it's a fun bike for a long ride, you can ride 4 hours or you can ride all day or you can ride all day & a good part of the night (Confession: I replaced the factory seat). The FJR is lots more fun as a distance bike than my old cruiser, faster, handles way better too. Congrats on the good ride, post up them pics soon !

I had my 07 for 3 weeks before going on a 1467mile round-trip from home to Rocky Mountain National Park.

My hottest day was 106, but it cooled down to 65 at the Continental Divide :)

I didn't experience the "altitude hesitation" either.

I haven't stopped smiling...

The stock seat meant I stopped after 160ish miles... That might be my only upgrade.

It is a fine all-around tool, but excels in long-distance mode. Glad it fits your needs.

Carefully securing luggage/load, as you found, is critical. I recall back in about 1978, aboard my first-ever bike - a 1976 Yamaha RD 400 - a rubber tarp strap I was using across the rear of the saddle came loose and wound up tangled up in the rear disc brake. I felt a sudden drag and a bogging engine. I knew something was wrong instantly but not what. I still shudder to think what a total rear-wheel lock-up would have meant at 70 mph. Sounds like you dodged a bullet. Whew!

Be safe and enjoy!

Nice way to break her in :)
Actually the bike was pretty much already broken in. It had about 5500 miles on it when I bought it. The speedo pod had been replaced due to the "17mpg" error so it only showed just over a 1000 miles on it when I bought it.

EXcellent. What seat did you install anyway?

I kept the stock seat on it. I didn't have any issues with it other than the bike being slightly too tall for my short legs.

Here's a more complete write up with pics.
