Riding to NM and back in June. Going to Albuquerque.

2-3 days of scenic routing to get there, riding with an iron-butter as ride companion so I will have to intentionally throw down the anchor to make him stop and smell the roses or take the more scenic route instead of the fastest way there. Also going to try to take my time to return home, routing myself to Mt. Shasta for July 4th weekend.

I don't have a route for the return journey, but this is my route on the way there. Please (pretty please) feel free to give better route suggestions, detours, nearby attractions, photo ops etc etc. Also, please help me with a route suggestion for the way home. Will be much appreciated!

Which side of the Sierra's are you planning on returning?
I have absolutely no idea what route I am returning on yet. All I know is that I will end up at Mt. Shasta on the 2nd at the very latest on the 3rd of July - having left NM on that Monday the 29th.

That's a nice route. If you have time, I'd try to route a path from Monticello, UT to Ridgeway, CO and then head south along the million dollar highway (550) to Durango. Then head east out of Durango and take 84 south to Santa Fe. 550 south of Durango was boring.

Roy, something is wrong with your route. That goes from Durango to Esoanola, skipping Taos and the best road on that ride.

Sam, follow Roy's route to Chama. Then make a left onto Highway 64. That will take you over Hopewell pass to Tres Piedras. Continue straight towards Taos and stop at the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge. Then turn south towards Taos and burn down 68 towards Espanola. Depending on your schedule, you could ride towards Angelfire and then ride through Black Lake, towards Mora, Pensaco and then Espanola. The SW-FOG guys will confirm that's a good ride. Hell, you could run south out of Espanola and hit Hwy 4 through Jemez. That's a great road too.

Let me know when it's getting closer. If you come that way, I'll ride to Chama and meet you. THAT would be super fun! Patch308 (My brother) and I know those roads well. I'll have that ******* meet us and he'll scare the **** out of you as you try to follow his GS...Again, ask around. I think Phroenips had that experience.

Whoops, I posted the wrong link! What HRZ mentioned is the route we took - https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Durango,+CO/Albuquerque,+NM/@36.3840279,-106.0377233,10z/data=!4m24!4m23!1m15!1m1!1s0x873c02a6bd85fc23:0xdc2b8882a3a67e5a!2m2!1d-107.8800667!2d37.27528!3m4!1m2!1d-105.6260185!2d36.4586457!3s0x871770448903a80d:0x78ce9db36944cd16!3m4!1m2!1d-105.7227691!2d36.3152203!3s0x87177ec302980025:0x7832f6ddafce7063!1m5!1m1!1s0x87220addd309837b:0xc0d3f8ceb8d9f6fd!2m2!1d-106.609991!2d35.110703!3e0

Lol. Waaaaaay better!! Sam, see Espanola on Tha map? Look left and see 30, then 502 and then 4? That would be a great route. I ride 550 to 4 to 502 and back to Santa Fe all the time. Tons of fun, and decent views.

Depending on your work schedule, I would love to go riding with you and you can show me some roads around there, that I wouldn't catch on my way there or back. :)

See you there? It's the start of the IBR that I am going to in candy butt fashion - plan is to ride around locally, hangout, party, watch the IBR riders leave and then candy butt it back home.
