My son-in-law, Dan, and my oldest daughter, Tracie are teachers in Kenai Alaska.

They decided to come south for the summer. They want to visit relatives in WA, MT, ND and Saskatchewan. Dan will work for one of our many relatives and Tracie and kids will play.

So… they loaded up the Chevy suburban with enough stuff [how I don’t know] to get them through the summer and headed for my place just out of Seattle, WA. Only 2,841 miles give or take a few feet.

They had planned on driving straight through but … a land side  that wiped out the road somewhere between Beaver Creek, Yukon and Haines Junction, Yukon has changed their plan. They are now sitting in Beaver Creek waiting for some word about when the road will open.

Let’s see, only 2,256 miles to go. Tracie says when you live in Alaska, you learn to adjust and take things in stride.

She is a heck of a lot tougher than. Hang in there girl. Hope to see you and your crew soon!

Dang Yukon road reports don't help.

•Several washouts and mudslides have occurred between Watson Lake and Teslin, and Haines Junction and Destruction Bay on the Alaska Highway. Washouts have also occurred between Carcross and Fraser on the South Klondike Highway. Travel within these regions is not advised at this time.

And of course you know where my daughter and her crew are now.

•Highway 1, the Alaska Highway, is closed between Jct 37 and Teslin due to a mud slide and washouts.

Highway 1, the Alaska Highway, is open between Haines Junction and Destruction Bay with single lane traffic from km 1638 to km 1643. The highway could close with short notice.

This must be the stride stuff she talks about ... :)

Not sure how that take it in stride is working ...

"Tracie Beck is now stuck in Whitehorse....the road by Teslin totally taken out by water/mudslide! Drove all the way down there and then traveling all the way back to Whitehorse due to no tent and nowhere to stay......I have never backtracked on the Alaska Highway! Record breaking trip! Breaking records that I never wanted to break....ugh! During the backtrack saw the cutest bear ever. Didn't make it back in time to hit walmart for tent and supplies so at the Westmark. Valid case for a camper....my husband is seeing things a little more like me these days!"

Almost to my house give or take a few km, 2,457 km ..

What is this km stuff, Dave?

Pretty soon you'll be eating Timbits, buying two-fours, and growing a playoff beard.

You're too close to that border.

Take off, eh.

(Hope it all works out with the kid and her family, old man.)

Now they are in Teslin [far south as DOT would let them go] but about to run out of supplies.

So what do they do now, go back north to Whitehorse, buy more supplies, and head back to Teslin ... or go back to Kenai [861 miles] and try again later.

The road was suppose to open today but ... and when it does, all of the big rigs with supplies will go first. No one seems to know how long that will take before the rest of the folks can go through.

Take it in stride, girl, take it in stride.

Me, I would be climbing walls by now.

That girl and her husband both have patience. I'd have been going nuts about 12 hours into it. Sheesh.

If it were me, though; i would wait it out, this far into it. The road should hopefully be good to go in a day or so. I'd hate to miss it by that much.

Keep us updated...

Oh yeah: I think its weird how much you and Beemerdons look alike in that picture. Kinda freaks me out really.

A good dad would head north with supplies and where the road stops, take your little Honda Trail 90 and push up the road and rescue her! A real dad would do this for his daughter... Put some trail tires on your Ducati and head north old man... Your retired, what else do you have to do??? You might get lucky and bag a moose or bear for your troubles...

Well now Pops can rest, say hello to Dan and Tracie for me!

Ask Dan, when can Kevin expect some more RIBS?

+1, Gunny; Well Finally, the Old (I mean really OLD!) Danish Voice of Wisdom has sounded off!

Well the road was open and the drove straight through to Prince George. Nice little 24 hour drive. Another 12 to 14 hour stretch and they will be on my door step. :yahoo:
Glad to hear the Very Good News Dave, must be a huge load off of your mind and you can stop doubling down on your heart meds now!
