My 12 y.o. son Nick (AKA Nicky Tomatoes) spends the entire school year w/ his mother in North Carolina and summers w/ me in Cali / Vegas. Tonight we talked about the possibility of doing a CA to NC ride sometime in the next couple of years. I explained to him that I have always wanted to do a 50cc IBA ride, and explained to him what I was talking about. He seemed to think that'd be a pretty hard ride. 10 minutes later he comes outside where I'm watering some plants and drinking a cold brew in the evening breeze and says to me "Dad, you know what would be really hard? A 50cc ON a 50cc. You should try that."

Smart ***.

LOL, that made my day Scott....and your son is absolutely right. It would be really hard.

Something tells me you two are going to have some wonderful adventures in your future. Good job dad, and Nick: Save a ride for RenoJohn, I like your style.

Turbocharge your 50, with a big fuel cell, up the gearing (somehow). It's doable. Yeah!

Wait. Are 50's still 2-strokes? Hmmm.. Difficult turbo. . . . . And now you gotta carry oil for your gas, too. Weird fuel cell problem.

So, how many 50s can you mount on one bike?

I need to get some sleep, I think. . . . .

Yeah, we're having fun every summer on the FJR. GOOD TIMES! Here is some of the fun we had last year. Ahhh, the memories. And the bare *****. And the getting kicked out of the hotel bar, and the Skooter almost hittin a freakin' deer, and me and Skoot missing the group photo cuz we got stuck behind some "Hey Bro" riders...and other stuff I don't recall...

Direct from the IBA web site...

Robert Munden Windsor, ON CANADA 07/02/08 Honda NS50F 1,604 49cc!

If he can do it...

When asked why he did the BB on a 49cc bike, Robert was heard to reply "huh?"

Its our nature to do 'stupid' **** and then wonder what the big deal is.

Then again, thiers enough ppl that will go for a 'big ride' on a GoldWiing down to buy a bag of milk. Same kinna thing 'innit?

I rode one of these on the highway at 50 ~ 60 mph (and I'm no small guy):

They were sold & street legal in the U.S. (MSF used some for training bikes).

There are (have been) faster 50s:

This one went 78 mph in the mid '50s, naturally aspirated -- and 121 mph, supercharged:

I think the current 50cc speed record is 144 mph?

No, not all -- but, the fast ones are.... :)

The '50s NSU record breaker was a supercharged 2-stroke (the 'huffer' was a prototype Wankel...).

Oil injection (oil tank & engine-driven pump).

Weird fuel cell problem.
'Fifties' get some of the best fuel mileage (MPGs) available. :)
