This just happen the other day.

MINNEAPOLIS - A motorcyclist is dead after hitting a pothole Tuesday night at more than 100 mph on Interstate 394 in Minneapolis.

Eyewitnesses saw two motorcyclists traveling east on I-394 at “very, very high rates of speed,” said Minnesota State Patrol Lt. Jason Bartell.

The motorcycles were going between 100 and 120 mph, he said.

Shortly before 10 p.m., Anand Baskaran, 30, of East Northport, N.Y., was ejected after hitting a pothole and losing control near Theodore Wirth Parkway, according to the patrol.

Witnesses said Baskaran had been wearing a helmet, although those first on the scene did not observe one. A helmet was later recovered at the scene.

The other motorcyclist “took off,” Bartell said, and authorities were looking for that person, who is described as driving a black 2009-10 Honda CBR sport-style motorcycle.

It was not immediately clear whether the two motorcyclists were racing. The patrol did not receive any reports of the bikers weaving through traffic, Bartell said.

This is Minnesota’s first death of a motorcyclist in 2014, according to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.

The stretch of road, a 3-lane freeway that was already bad and slated for repaving, was made worse from the harsh winter. I drive this daily with my truck and I have to dodge the holes. It's been too cold and wet for the Hwy dept. for them to use even temporary patch material to fix these until just this week, and they can't get to every hole if they wanted too. It sad that this had to happen, but the drivers have to take some/most responsibility as this road has been on the many local news channels how bad it is, and they were flying down it in dark to boot!!.

Drive safe..at least for a while....from the land of 10,000 pot holes......

Self regulating sport. Sounds harsh, but it is, you can be oh so careful in your own mind and still draw the short straw for being short on options and/or unlucky. Been there 3 times in 41 years. Bambi in BC., the left turn fail to yield car at intersection, rear ended at stop light. Only alternative is to stop riding and my wife of 46 yrs. knows that ain't about to happen.

Yep, another Darwin Award recipient.

I got out to ride today in PA. Nice to ride again, but with debris on the roads and unpredictable potholes, it's unimaginable that anyone would be racing in the dark. Suicidal. Sorry for the families.

Yep, same here in northern Ohio. Potholes big enough to swallow children and lots of debris that was buried in the snow. Be careful out there.

Feel bad for the families.

Potholes, sand & gravel, mountain sheep & goats, deer, peeling truck tires, stupid cagers etc.. Gotta be extra cautious this early in the season, and keep the racing on the track.

Condolences to the family and friends.

I don't get the local paper here anymore, but several around my office who now I ride a "bit", couldn't help but to tell me about this event the past couple of days. Not sure if they were telling me to keep the speed down or warning me about the potholes.

I'm sorry, but I don't feel too sorry for idiots like this. Today I rode the 73 miles into work, first time for the year, and I couldn't stop thinking that the drivers around me were thinking "there's another one of them stupid bikers, I hope he hits a pothole". Point is, bad bikers make us all look bad.

I hope he didn't leave any kids behind.

Darwin rules and based on personal experience I am lucky to be alive. My son had a snowboarding accident and crushed a spinal vertebra due to poor choices. Sorry to hear this lad did not get a second chance.

I once rode a dirt bike off a 30' cliff.

There but by the grace of <entity of your choice> goes I.
