She said if I leave her with our 3 dogs for that long, I better take all my stuff, as it will save the front yard from the fire she will set burning my stuff up. So maybe a month is too long, but something less might work.
I left my wife for a year! Last year I was gone for 6 months altogether. I left her at home with 3 dogs and a cat. Our marriage has never been better!! Go riding! When are you going to get the chance again?

i'd job hunt. you can ride once you know things are good again. if you tack on x weeks to the front of the job hunt it could get tight. the last friend i had who had to job hunt spent 2 years "working" to find a new job (8 hour days seriously working the field).

with a wife that's an E.R nurse, you might best listen to her input. she has access to lots of untraceable drugs and hypodermic needs. you could easily wake up dead.

Go out and find new job first,no down time or you'll end up like me.

Given up hope,no money of your own to speak of (IE wife's money) and 2 years later

still looking for work.

Your relationship with your wife will turn ugly, your family and friends

will slowly fade away................

It's not pretty nor is it fun any more, don't lose all you have. You have plenty

of time to ride. Go find work first.................

You asked what I would do in your situation... I would do the initial networking and resume dump first. The process after that takes time anyway. Then I would go for a long ride to somewhere I would never be able to visit with limited vacation time.

BTDT...first time blind sided on December 19th...Merry friggin Christmas, second and third times saw it coming and jumped ship to better positions.

Take a short period of time to decompress and then hit the job search hard. You're competing with 20 to 30 somethings so use your knowledge, skills and abilities to trump them. Think outside the box -- change careers if necessary, sounds like you've got skills to make it happen.

Good luck and don't give up!

Anyone in the area looking for a little escape time? Maybe Big Bend, Ozarks, New Mexico/AZ?

Tyler, I would appreciate the connection.
come to Nawlin's, the big easy...you are welcome to stay at my home as long as you want...happy for you to use anything I have like puters wifi etc. food is amazing.

let's see, Canadians (couples) came down for 4-5 days, Barry from KY came, but pls don't believe anything from Tyler on her 5 days here. It's all a lie.

Be happy to meet you somewhere around Lafayette for a cajun lunch...then back, coast, or interstate to the Big Easy.

There's lots of interesting roads and attractions of all kinds within 200mi day rides of my home..

Seriously, my family promised we'd use the house for others and my wife's definite gift is hospitality. Email me for details mholiver at patriotguard dot org

uhhhhhh....

you're an evil man, Patriot. that all makes me miss lousy-anna (not so lousy when i went back unattached to fort polk).

-42 ponds and counting here... but a trip to those places would stop the progress dead in it's tracks.

Man, you guys need to travel up to New England, those are some really pathetic lobsters.

Lobsters built in Maine, none of those little sissy things ---

Lot of input here, most of which leans toward riding, but a few folks that (have) had a hard time finding work, (kman09, I really hope things turn around for you soon). I think I'm going to take the next couple of weeks to get some things done around the house that have been put off for awhile, while spending a couple of hours a day chasing down some immediate leads that came out of networking the last couple of days of my last job. If I don't have anything cooking after that time, a ride will be in order, and I'm leaning towards the Ozarks; I've always meant to do the SFO thing, but other vacation plans got in the way. This would be a good time to ride those roads some of you folks speak so highly of. Patriot, I appreciate the offer, but like Bounce evidently, I'm also trying to cut some weight, and none of those pictures looked like they would help in that effort!

Patriot you just made my stomach grumble!!! I'm stuck over here in the Kuwaiti desert and haven't had a beer or good food since last August. If I didn't already have plans for my R&R in March I'd be knocking on your door. Damn, there goes my stomach again!!! LOL

GAWD, i miss Naw'lins....

P.

Update:

Here it is, 4/10, and I have spent way too much time job hunting. Actually, I spent way too much time pursuing one job, (over 2 months), and that came to a crashing thud on Monday, when I was told that the company decided to hire the other guy. And for pretty dumb reasons, but they hold the cards, so they dictate the game.

So it's back to the job search, getting as many lines in the water as I can, and maybe I need to get out and ride for 5-7 days. Anyone up for a little ride in the Ozarks?

Lots of work in the oil patch, west TX, NM, S. Dakota, N. Dakota. Everything from IT support to CDL truck driving. Lots of CDL jobs out there, not too many people can stay clean enough to drive a truck anymore. Tons of work on many Air Force bases and DOE labs too. Just offfering some ideas. There is good work out there for good people, keep at it brother! ;)

Started my new job on 5/29, for a company located out in the Denver area. Remote gig, so I'm working out of the house in Austin. A bit more money, so all is good!

Fantastic, man. I love it when it all works out. And good for you for sticking with it.

Now what cool stuf did you do with you "fortuitous" time off?

Thanks, Fred, I appreciate it.

I'm not sure how cool my activities were, but I did manage to:

  • catch up on a bunch of reading
  • digitize my album collection. Only 125 albums, but it takes longer than one might think.
  • perform some repairs/maintenance on my 1977 Toyota FJ40
  • chase the wife around a little

What I didn't manage to do was go on a long ride.

It's all cool, man. I personally think it would be awfully hard to enjoy an extended trip when your entire life is in limbo. Other folks are able to pull it off (apparently). Now that you have your life-train back on the tracks, I'm sure you'll work those road trips in again.

Congratulations!
