I will be passing thru that area in a few weeks heading to North Conway (from Portland area).....was looking at the map and wondering if i should stay on 302 or take a little loop around the lake (Rte 114) ? i sthe view of the lake worth the detour ?

Any suggestions,

Thanks

Well, 302 is really nothing special, and you'd be riding through all the busy lake towns( Raymond, Naples, Bridgeton), which all get pretty busy with tourist traffic in the summer. The Sebago lake views are OK, but nothing all that spectacular, IMO. I generally avoid 302 as much as possible (my brother lives in Naples)

I'd take 114 to 113 up to Brownfield, and then take the Eaton - Brownfield road to Eaton NH, then Rte 153 up to Conway. Or you can take Rte 25 from Portland area west to Freedom, NH and then ride more of Rte 153 up to Conway. Rte 153 is a nice motorcycle riding road. You can also just stay on 113 and it runs right into Conway.

I'll have to agree with Fred about Sebago Lake, with the summer traffic and the scant few glimpses of the lake it's really not worth it. The stretch of Rt 153 from Freedom to Eaton through the Purity Springs Resort area is very nice.

In full agreement with the locals. I was a local. I remember a friend telling me once that during the summer Sebago lake is so busy that you could walk across from boat to boat without touching the water.
