Seattle King 5 News this morning;

'The latest reasearch shows that those whom suffer bouts of 'Road Rage' may suffer from a condition of 'Intermitant Explosive Disorder.'

WTF! IMHO this is BS way of saying 'it's not my fault' I have a condition. Fawk! That jerk that dreamed this up needs a big dose of Whoop Azz! TJ

Unfortunately mental dis-orders exist, many people can't control their temper and some actually black out and don't even know what they did when they get angry.

I don't have a problem accepting that it exists, what I have a problem with is people not realizing that they still need to be held to the same standards as everyone else and if they can't be cured should be kept away from others plain and simple. Drugs can't be a gaurantee that they will even take them...

I get that sometimes after going to Taco Bell...

IED = Improvised Explosive Device -- Just some are human :assassin:

Actually, IED (Intermittent Explosive Disorder) is a DSM-IV-TR diagnosis that is not seen often in a therapists' office because they think everyone else has the problem (e.g. "It was ____ fault I got angry!"). CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) can be helpful, and some medications, but usually the explosive anger is done against family (wife, kids) than strangers. I have some ideas why that may be but they aren't based on research data. Most with IED are male. It has no defining socioeconomic indicators (i.e. poor, rich, North, South, etc. doesn't matter). It is serious and sometimes tragic. Most come in for treatment because they screwed up with the law or became substance abusers trying to deal with it on their own. Based on the numbers it is probable one to two drivers on the road suffer from explosive anger. Another good reason not to flip the bird at cagers.

Anyway......... I'll shut up now.

Bingo, that's the guy I work with. When something triggers him he needs to be hit with a stun gun, tied up and shipped home until he gets over it. He knows when he gets angry but can't control what he does next. On more than one occasion he has woken up at a police station.

I got in a rage once. Saw red and was (litterly) blind with rage. I was 16/17? my younger brother was surrounded by a group of jerk guys. The Bully Instigator kicked my brother in his nether regions and he was down & was taunting him. A Bully whom had also fawked with me. I went in wailing. I couldn't even feel his punches. I had him down chocking him. I regained control and stopped the situation even though a group was urging me me to keep hurting him. I vowed never to let that happen to me again (and have not come any where close again). So I experienced 'Rage' and learned from it. As far as I am concerned do they know right from wrong. Like anything control takes effert. It's common to say I would like to teach XXX a lesson. Thankfully most adults have enough control not to act on such wims. TJ

Just like being fat is a handicap ?!?!....the cure for that is a cork in the mouth.

Oh, I have IPIDITM (Intermittently Punches Ignorant Drivers In The Mouth), don't blame me, I have a condition.

That Taco Bell comment was funny.

One more excuse bandwagon for people to jump on. Of course there is always the very small minority that has a legit medical condition be it physical or mental. For the vast majority it just becomes an easy excuse to blame a lack of personal control on a socially acceptable condition.....................********!!!!! I live in the Puget Sound region and the drivers and traffic here could breed IED cases like rabbits. People forget how to drive if it's sunny, rainy, congested, wide open, a cop has someone pulled over....etc. Last Friday some A-hole caused a 27 car pile up and it took me 3 hours 50 minutes to get home 37 miles away. Guess the new excuse for road rage means I could of gone on a shooting spree ( and I did think about it ) and claim a medical condition. Maybe sue the Dept of Transportation, the state, my parents and maybe my neighbour just for kicks..........It's ********!!!!!!

Have a nice day !

Just 2 more cents. Just because you have (just for arguments sake) IED and hit your wife or shoot somebody, what happens in the legal system generally (unless you have the money of O.J. Simpson) is you go to jail and have IED in jail/prison. Just because you have a medical condition does not absolve you legally. It is a common misperception due to high profile cases in the media. Most jails and prisons are full of mentally ill people. Just the facts........

i think this thread could be referring to you....maybe. just maybe.

I read that in the paper the other day. ******* doctors just trying to get published for the lack of any real medical knowledge learned. It's called normal behavior dipwads; when somebody pisses you off, you need to let them know about it.

Shinypartsup....just a little mini-rant......maybe just stretching it just a bit........Do really get tired of all the excuses that get jumped on to let people feel better about a lack of personal responsability and control on their part. What the hell happened to socoal and moral accountablility...? Mark my words..high or low profile case...this will hit the legal system....stretch out court proceedings and generaly waste more of me and your tax dollars.

Please watch the political and moral philosophy banter. We've left the thread open as there are some fair points related to motorcyling, but remember this forum is first and foremost about FJRs. Please remember the Forum Guidelines.

Thanks.

But isn't that why it's posted in 'Completely Off-topic Discussions'? Or is there a better place to put it?

Some time back they stopped political stuff all together no matter where you put it.

Seems some just can't take it.
