So I figure I would give some of you southerners and high mileage guys a laugh. I have some miles on my bike, a 60 mile commute and I just love to ride. But I live in northern NY,way north it seems. Two days ago I decided to check out the local community college, FLCC, about 30 minutes away. Let me start by saying that I ride with 28 to 30 dB ear plugs in almost all of the time and today was no different. So I take all the twisties that I can on the way there just for the heck of it. I get to the campus and ride around for 15 or so minutes in 2nd, just cruising, taking in the layout, trying not to get distracted and hit anyone. Just as I'm about to leave the campus, my bike starts making This Whole Different, Loud noise that I can hear through the full face and the ear plugs. I get a little concerned (no, really alot concerned because the towing bill would be more than my wallet could take right now). I pull over, yank off my gloves, undo the helmet, yank it off and then pull out the little yellow ear plugs as fast as I can. It turns out that my fan went on for the first time. LOL. Apparently, cruising 390 or 15 at 80+ all the times I rode to work is enough to dissipate the heat every one complains about and it really hasn't been warm this summer up here. I usually can't wait till the engine warms up enough to keep me warm. So I just had to tell you all my little story so you could laugh at me too.

Enjoy the ride

It shouldn't be that loud.

It's probably got a mouse nest in it from sitting in your garage for so many months out of all these years.

Errrrm,

you say your bike has some miles but I re-read your post to see if there's hint about many of those are 'your' miles. How long you had the scoot? And would I be correct in assuming it's yer' first liquid cooled bike?

You're an FNG so you don't know what "is it friday yet?' means, eh? <_<

Muuhuuuhuuhhaaahaahaaaaaaaaa

My bike started making this weird sound... kind of like an electric fan or something

Please help!!

hey let me have some fun with the noobs too. I am an FJR PILOT!!!!!! You haven't seen any unqualified posts from me since.... last friday, come to think of it ;)

Yep, puttering around in second gear will warm the engine up to three bars and even hit four bars once in a while. Four bars is when the fan comes on. The problem is, once everything gets good and toasty, it stays warm for a long time. The frame and gas tank will hold a lot of heat.

Fan? What the hell are you guys talking about? Yea--summer's finally here!

first bike with a fan i presume. Although i must admit the water cooled bikes i have had rarely had the fan come on as i don't ride i town much, its the open road for me.

Sitting in traffic at lunch today. Watching temp guage getting up to 3 then 4 bars. Here comes the fan, ahhh. :(

I'm getting just like pavlov's dogs, minute I see the 4th bar, bracing for that lovely heat blast. All part of the experience.

If I'm at a stop light and I see that last temp bar light up that tells me the fan is about to come on I grab a tight hold of the brakes. The extra thrust of those fans can drag you right out into oncoming traffic if you aren't carefull.

Really, it will.
