At the cost of fine leather gloves I am trying to take better care of my gloves which get their share of sweat etc, a big factor in the whole dirt and grime my gloves accumulate. So according to the Held website (my gloves are Held- Steve and Racer- High End) I washed them by hand in a leather soap, rinsed and rinsed some more before air dry.

All the Held site says is to treat gloves with a leather conditioner.

I have a bottle of leather conditioner which came with a leather sofa kit or I have mink oil I use for my Rick Mayer seat but can I use mink oil (sparingly on the palms) for the gloves with relation to the grips?

Wondering what the you folks use and thoughts?

... my gloves which get their share of sweat ...
Maybe if you'd slow the **** down, they wouldn't get so sweaty.

Is that helpful?

You could go to your local feed store and buy saddle soap. Although the name implies it, it is not soap. It is conditioning paste. Horses and riders sweat all over saddles that spend all day in the hot sun and dirt. If its good enough for a saddle, your gloves will thank you.

I always just use mink oil as it waterproofs and my gloves do get rained on now and then. To re- soften leather that's dry I use Neatsfoot oil. If you just wear them to ride nit sure why they would get that dirty...

But I'd have to say if you are sweating in your gloves you need to find a cooler pair.....

You never have to ride in town or slow traffic with temps in the 90's? Sweat, oil and lord only knows what ends up in my gloves

Thanks Bounce, great read!

FWIW, my several year-old-Held Phantoms were recently washed in accordance with Held's recommendations and then treated with a leather conditioner made by Nickwax. I am extremely pleased with the results.
