Need to find a leather protectant for my new Rich's custom seat. Have heard Lexol is good stuff. But which product?

Leather Cleaner?

Leather Conditioner?

3 in 1 Leather Care?

What about other types of protectants that people use?

Thanks Mates

If you are only going to buy one, get the conditioner. We used to use that on the horse saddles and it's pretty good stuff. The cleaner is a fine product and you may want to use a cleaner once in a while. Saddlesoap or just plain wetted rag will clean most dirt pretty well.

When I got my new Bill Mayer saddle this year, they gave me a bottle of "Bee Natural Leathercare." I guess that's the brand, 'cuz the bottle says "Leather Amore" on it. Website calls it "a luxurious leather cleaner and conditioner." Supposed to apply in on some kind of a schedule I immediately forgot. Seems fine, but that reminds me . . . gotta smear some on the saddle again pretty soon.

Me too. Just put some on my seat.

I use this product called Obenauf's Heavy Duty LP Leather preservative. It was developed by a fire fighter for fire fighters, it repels chemicals, heat, water, and abrasion. made with Beeswax/Propolis Suspension Formula.I got it at the Red Wing shoe store.

Use the same stuff on my boots...works well both conditioning and waterproofing. Obenauf's Heavy Duty LP.

Shoe Polish, followed by Lexol. If Leather. Sides are usually vinyl so SP 303 or a good vinyl product.

It is leather and black polish will do it right. No different then a pair of boots or shoes. I spent a lot of time polishing boots and black polish is your friend for treating and caring for leather seats.

Probably as many answers as people.

I picked up Australian Leather Seal to use on my Bill Mayer seat at the Toronto Supershow.

Doesn't that make your *** black from sitting on it?

Another vote for Mink Oil here.

I just Mink'ed my "waterproof" (huh, yeah...) leather gloves in preparation for the Chowder ride this weekend. I was wondering if it wouldn't work wunders on me leather Russell seat as well Guess I'll give her a go.

No. After working it in, letting it dry, brush with shoe brush, then buff with clean rag. Then a quick spray of Lexol will aid in waterproofing and remove any residue of polish.

As I said this is leather and no different then a pair of boots.

I am always amazed how motorcycle seats are so over thought on care. If you have worn spit shined boots you know the power of polish to seal and protect leather. I do agree with a conditioner/waterproof product but the polish goes into the grain of the leather to seal and protect it.

Ever try riding on a waterproof rain cover? I have. It sucks.

Got one from Russell when I ordered a full leather seat. It's OK to use when parked overnight, but easier to just cover the whole bike then.
