Hi,

I'm planning on doing a 9day trip with my SO at the end of the summer (SF to Vegas by myself, then Zion, Bryce, Arches... with her) and some of it will require us to go on walks while having everything packed on the bike.

I've looked at all the ways to lock the helmets so that's covered, but what about the gear?

I see a couple valid solutions:

1 - A cable going through the jacket's sleeves and the pants

2 - this Pacsafe gear

First, which one would you advise? Or do you do anything else?

Second, what about the boots? Mine are comfy but not to the point where i want to go hike with them...

Thanks a lot for your help,

Vince

Cover, cable, pelican case, and comortable riding boots (Oxtar in my case) that I can do light hiking in. That and try and park in a high traffic and conspicuous area. Most rallies have bonii that the rallymaster has tried to make for a reasonably safe leaving of gear...or that you're not gone that long.

Hi Vince. Nice FJR you got there in your avatar photo! :)

I've done the cable lock through the riding suit thing. Actually did it at Arches, where you're going. As for boots, you should leave room in your bags to stow the boots, and bring along a pair of closed toe sandals. They pack really small and are perfect for light hiking, or just walking around after your day's ride is done. Something kinda like this, but you can get them cheaper.

I carry a 6' bike cable w/lock that I run through everything I can't put in the side bags/top case. While I can walk in my boots, if I couldn't I'd pull out what I needed & hopefully have planned enough room to pack my boots. Perhaps I've been lucky, but I've never had anyone mess w/my stuff on the bike in that situation. I just try to have a plan that's easy for me to do, so I will.

For the avatar i didn't do any nice trip on it yet, so i don't have any cool picture with it, and i just love this one. My Intruder has been a very faithful companion.

The light hiking shoes are already on the checklist, but given that we're going to be pretty packed i'm thinking about doing the lock through the gear and the pacsafe or something similar for the boots. We have 2 pairs to pack and they are in the tall category.

I'm preparing for a trip to Seattle next weekend as well, but after that i'd be happy to meet if you're around.
