I finally let my new left-over '08 Black Beauty aka BB out of the corral so to speak. First we met at the dealer for a little test ride. Then I bought her and we walked around the corral a bit for the first 100 or so miles. Then we did a little fast walking around the corral until I changed her oil, oil filter, and Diff. gear oil at the 238 mile mark. Then we trotted around the corral a bit until the 675 mile mark when I changed her oil, oil filter, Diff. gear oil, and did her 600 mile service sans the TB sync.. Then we ran just a little around the corral until we hit the 1200 mile mark. Well last week at 1200 miles I figured BB was broke in enough and it was time to let her out of the corral and let her gallop. And let me say, WOW, OMG, and any other adjective one can think of as I first let her run up to 7K rpm and that was awesome. Then on the same ride on a super nice road with a good straight stretch I let her wind up to 8K rpm and what a ride, WOW!!!!!! Never rode a bike that could do 8K rpm so it was a totally new experience for me and am I spoiled now!!! I was in third gear and just rolled her on smoothly and held on. Don't know how fast I was going as I was just watching the tach and the road. Talk about addictive!!! Better than alcohol, drugs, and even ***. OK, I've come to my senses, not better than *** but tied, but it does last longer than ***, LOL! I'm also getting used to riding BB and have found she doesn't want to be ridden like a Harley but more like the race horse she is, a little more aggressively. She also likes more R's when I shift. This is a whole new M/C paradime for me now riding BB!
Also ordered the PCA sport rack, paint protector, and backrest last week and it should arrive tomorrow. Looked at all my options for a backrest/rack including the Pirates Lair, Garauld's (Gary's), Mike industries, and the PCA backrest/racks and decided the PCA setup would work best for my needs. All the other backrests/racks were also great so it was a hard choice. Also ordered a pint of Yamaha FJR/V-Max Diff. gear oil #9079E-SH001-00, a Yamaha oil filter, and two drain plug crush washers from Glen the parts Guru at FJR goodies which will hopefully arrive later in the week. When I bought my bike the dealer sold me some Yamaha Friction Modified 80w-90 gear oil for ATV/Golfcart Diffs. which said on the bottle was OK for M/C use. But when I talked to Glen he gave me the scoop on the FJR/V-Max Diff. gear oil so I ordered some from him and the price was very right compared to my dealers price. I went back to my Yamaha dealer and asked them about the FJR/V-Max Diff. gear oil and they really didn't know much but said they'd order some to have in stock. The price, $35! I asked the dealer parts kid what size that was and he didn't know, he thought with it being so expensive it was for a gallon!!! Hopefully this Yamaha ATV/Golfcart friction modified Diff. gear oil I've been using hasn't done my Diff. any harm? I also did some FJR forum searches on throttle cruise control devices. I was leaning towards the "throttlemeister" but wasn't really sure how I'd like it as it seemed awful expensive for a friction throttle control (which I'm used to from my HD's) plus I was wondering about setting it as I rode. After reading some FJR Forum posts on the subject I decided to just get a "Crampbuster" and found one at my dealer during their pig roast last Saturday and got it for less than $9 as the dealer was offering 20% off during their pig roast.
