I found some threads on lifting the tank on pre '06 bikes but can't seem to find anything for the '06. Is the procedure the same or have they mounted the tank differently from previous years? I figured I better ask before I f*** it up... I want to run some wiring from front to back to hook up a Blue Sea fuse block under the seat. I found the thread for the Blue Sea which was tremendously helpful but wonder how others have routed their wiring.

Axeman - I ran the wires from the battery +/- in the right side frame hole by the handlebars (pretty crappy description, sorry), across the engine bay and down the left side of the bike. I used the NAPA ashphalt loom in the engine bay (ran the wire first and then pushed the loom back to front over the wires. I put the BlueSea under the rear seat and moved my AutoCom into the tool box area. I ran my heated grip wires outside the bike (left side) under the fairing and across the area above the shifter. That is visable, but I put the loom over the wires there and it really isn't noticeable. Good luck - not a hard install, but time consuming.

From Ari's writeup on doing the TBS on the 06 models:

The first difference is that it's no longer possible to merely prop the front of the tank. Because of the fancy adjustable seat, it's now necessary to remove the rear king pin, instead of just loosening it. There are also two of those annoying plastic pop rivets to remove at the rear. Once the king pin is removed, you can slide the tank back a bit so that it pivots behind the seat height adjuster.

Thanks JimLor, that helps alot. I actually looked for some of the loom and a relay while I was at West Marine yesterday but they don't handle it so I guess a trip to NAPA is in order.

Thanks for that Warchild....I knew I had read about it on someones thread but couldn't remember where.

I couldn't get the king pin bolt loose on my 06. Not sure what is up with that. It that bolt normally a beast to remove or did the factory cross thread mine?

Fred:

Mine was really, really tight! But, it finally cracked and popped and broke loose. Doubt it is cross threaded. Good luck!
