As far as monitoring your tail/brake lights, I have a solution. I recently picked up a 16 R1200GS that is loaded with accessories including a small red LED light that is wired into the tail/brake lights and comes on when those lights are activated. It is mounted near the right fork cap so it is visible at a glance but not in your line of vision. At night it reflects off the inside of the w/s. It gives me great peace of mind, especially after being nearly rear-ended a few years ago. Ever since that day.... I NEVER EVER;1. stop in the middle of the lane, especially behind a car,2. put the bike in neutral, 3. become complacent I ALWAYS;1. angle my bike to the left (so if i do get hit, I will get pushed along side of instead of into the car ahead of me),2. keep my bike in first gear, 3. watch my mirrors    I know most of this is common sense but it is pretty easy to become complacent and combined with today's distracted drivers, this can quickly become a very dangerous if not deadly situation.    Ride safe my friends and remember this.
