I was told that WV has the highest bridge on this side of the US.

Where is it? In relation to where we be?

That would be the New River Gorge Bridge.

You should be able to find it from these links.

New River is the highest (I think??) But it's not extraordinary long.

I'm not sure how high it is...but I will say it will give you a thrill to cross it---Mackinaw Island Bridge, MI.

Very long, only one paved lane (others are metal grid). Usually high winds in that area. Basically a freaking scary bridge to cross no matter what you are driving. Makes the New bridge feel...safe?

The placard at new river gorge tells what makes it special...it is the longest steel ARCH bridge in the western hemisphere.

Think about it...all the other long bridges are suspension bridges or cable-stayed.

Whether its the highest or not...you'll have to go to yamaholic and others for that.

Never been across the Mackinaw Bridge, but here is a pic of the NRG Bridge from the bottom of the gorge

IIRC its 876 feet high

As was posted earlier... Both bridges have there attraction. If in the area of both you should both cross them and understand how they both were a feat to build. I must say After riding over the new gorge bridge.... you best take the old road down to the river and back up the other side to get the full affect of the new river gorge bridge. Went down behind some school rafting buses and watch them turn the corners on the road.

Why not see the wonders of the area...

The ride to and down thru New River Gorge is included in one of the mapped routes. And yes, it is a must do if you've never seen it.

I drove across in my cage and to be honest it doesn't feel that big, then I saw the NRG bridge from below in a raft riding the rapids, it's a lot more impressive (read: big) in person from down there. That picture was actually taken not too far from where the river rafting 'put in' is.

I hear Grumpy is planning to base jump from the NRG bridge. I volunteered to give him a lift back to his FJR.

:)

I can prolly borrow a gill net to fish him out da water! We'll need somebody on both banks to man the net. Volunteers?
