I know a lot of you are not in to long distance endurance riding, however I thought I share my ride with those that are. I just completed a 50CC in 44 hours with an 11 hour stop in Orange TX for a total of 44 hours and a BBG 1500 in 20 hrs 54 mins. The 11 hour stop time was to allow for the others to catch up and rest for 5 hours. What a beautiful country this is. Living on the east coast I sometimes forget just how big this country is. Some people say its crowed here, I say they never crossed the country on I-10. West of San Antonio the distance between exits can be 100 miles or more. On the east coast you can find food and fuel every 20 miles. The last 1000 miles was all done in the rain and it was still enjoyable. The sites and sounds I'll remember forever. Also, the group had 6 GoldWings, 3 Harleys, 1 BMW, and 2 Yamahas. The Harleys did not do well in the desert southwest and the Wings had to wait on them several times. Just not enough power even with the "new" 96 CI motor and 6 six. The Wing was flawless and fast! One FJR (Pathfinder on the forum) did the 100CC and 2 BBG 1500's during the ride. He is new to long distance riding and did outstanding! My congradulations to him and all the others that completed the Hoagy's Hero's Charity Run. I may no longer ride an FJR due to physical limitations but this is still the best damn forum around.

Just to clarify, it sounds like you were on a Goldwing? Were there two FJR's, or a different Yamaha?

You guys didn't give the Harley guys any grief when you had to wait up for them, did you?

If you made 6 gas stops @ 10 minutes each, your average for 2,362 miles was 73.8 mph. Pretty steady progress east of San Antonio on I-10 with all the construction.

What specifically was the issue with the Harleys? What kind of speeds were you running that you had to wait?

Yes, I was on the GoldWing. There was only 1 FJR. The other Yamaha was a cruiser. And we gave so much grief to the Harleys. The Harleys in 6th gear (2009's) could not hold speed while climbing the long grades. As for the speed, I'll let you figure it out. The GoldWing can never complete against the FJR in top speed or handling, but against the other touring bikes nothing else comes close.

RoadGlide,

My dad was on that ride on a wing. Mike from WV on an Illusion Red. Did he happen to be in your group? He said he rode along some with 101stpathfinder on the FJR.

I would love to have gone on that ride with him, but just couldn't swing it with the kids in school and activities. I think he will have been gone for 9 days when he finally gets back to WV. He's meandering home from FL seeing family on the way. Glad you had a good ride, sounds like it would have been a blast.

Paul,

I think I spoke with your father once we were back in Jacksonville. I am very bad with names.

If I remember correctly: you also have two brothers, and your dad said he would like to pick up

an FJR and that his sons had Fjrs? If this is your father?, he and the whole group were "Good People"

our paths will no doubt cross along the road some where. I found the LD riders to be a great bunch.

This month alone I have logged 7000 miles. I have the LD bug!

P.S Thanks goes out to Road Glide for great advice and support. No doubt we shall travel the same paths again.

Yep, that was him, his name was Mike. I've got 2 brothers, but I'm the only one with an FJR right now. I really wish I could have made that ride. Hopefully we'll get a chance to meet on an LD ride some day. If you ever need anything in OH, look me up.

Yes! Mike is a terrific guy and very good rider. I enjoyed his company very much and hope to ride again with him someday.

RoadGlide,

I saw Hoagy and California Ray (I think it was) out at the shop today. Hoagy didn't seem too happy about the public embarrassment his '09 suffered on here ;)

Although he didn't deny it either. I think he said he had it pinned in 6th at 80 and was falling so he dropped to 5th pinned it and still couldn't hold speed...

Congrats on the ride. They all seemed very happy when as well I talked to them.

He did most of the complaining himself about the HD. He really wants a Wing deep down. He's a great rider and can hold his own no matter what he's riding.

He's been that way for as long as I've known him. I think the last big ride I did with him I had my ST1100 and he was squeezing his HD for everything it was worth. I don't remember what year that one was, but as I recall he had 2 rebuilds on that motor in 50k mi. I doubt he'll ever break down and run a "rice burner."
