I'm sure folks have seen both these documentaries / rides that Ewan McGregor and his buddy Charlie Boorman did a few years ago. I had watched Long Way Around last year and finally got to see Long Way Down this past week.

Anybody else see either of them? Talk about long distance riding! I would love to do a trip through Africa like they did but I wonder what kind of money it would take?

Anyhow, if you haven't seen these documentaries I highly recommend getting your hands on them. You can get them from Netflix I believe.

I would love for people to give me a bunch of free stuff to attempt a trip like that. Oh, and be able to take the time off.

Truth be told that when they were riding Long Way Round....the IBA President, Kneebone, spiritual advisor Bob Higdon, and another rider were doing the essentially the same ride except West to East. They were on 750 Nighthawks and remember them skipping a particular section and putting their bikes on a train because the road was so bad? Kneebone and party were riding the road.....all without a support crew! ;)

Yes, great flicks and makes me want to do it one day myself!

I saw both of them. I really enjoyed watching their adventures.

Try "Riding Solo to the Top of the World" (you may want to turn on subtitles).

I'm much more impressed with that than with the LWD/R stuff.

Wow small world. I passed these guys on I-70 in the middle of South Dakota this last weekend. They were spread out about 1/4 mile doing maybe 55mph in a conjusted 75-80mph flow. My hat goes of to these tough bastards. I know that I wouldn't want to make the trip in this weather.

Ewan McGregor and his buddy Charlie Boorman can have their place in the popular sun, but they don't hold a candle to the guys and girls who have handled the challenges without sponsorship, support crews, rich daddies, etc etc.

I'd add Dave Barr to some of the names already mentioned. "Traveling around the world is a huge accomplishment, but only the beginning of Dave Barr’s incredible story. His solo motorcycle journey took three and a half years to complete and spanned six continents and 83,000 miles. What makes it truly remarkable is that Dave made the trip on a 1972 Harley-Davidson® motorcycle with two prosthetic legs, the result of an 1981 land mine explosion."
