Local stealership having an inventory clearance sale (as in we're done w/ the motorcycle business). I walked in out curiosity and the owner says hey you still lookin' for a dual sport. I said, well I've kinda given up on the idea for now. He said I've got the one you want still in the crate. I've never been able to buy a bike from this guy and our relationship has always been a bit rocky, so I about passed out when he said I could have it at his cost if I would jump thru the DMV hoops myself. Long story short, here's my lil' blue bug zapper - though she is not quite as clean now :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :

She feels very confident on the pavement, does nicely in the gravel and is a hand full of work in greasy wet clay - but so far major fun.

Great bike, I bought one of the older...faster..silver and black models. It just adds another way to enjoy motorcycling.. I really love the slower pace and just looking around. Have fun and ride safe.. Now go put some miles on that thing... Smitty

Congrats! Have a good time.

Let the farkling begin!Good luck with the new wheels and enjoy the ride safely tomorrow.
Thanks rockwells and Axeman. Ride was great. Went with a coupla buds on cruisers for the 1st half, they couldn't come close to keeping up in the twisties! Rode back on the gravel and dirt for the second half - lil' blue performed admirably, though I'm still remembering how cause it's been a long while. Farkling not happenin' at all until I convince my SO that I really did need a 2nd bike

Congrats on the new scoot Jim. Now you can lead the ride on Rt 72
Thanks Gary. Rt 72 was one of several rides that convinced me I should have a new scoot. Lil' blue may well see Rt 72 soon, very soon.

Lovin' my NEW TOY :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

SSSSOOOOOOOO, What was dealer cost on the 08,KLR. If I may be so bold.

Flowback, let's just say I stole it! ;) Bike, state taxes, title & tags and still $550 less than MSRP. I remained under MSRP after paying full coverage year-round insurance. I could not see ever getting a better deal on this bike.

Yep spklbuk, I think you done real good. You sho nuf got some perty contry to ride her in, enjoy.

Damn, I hate it when things like that follow me home...makes the wife sooo mad!

Congrats on the toy!

Big blu is feeling neglected! :D

Hmmm, I see that Lil' blue picked up some luggage along the way!

I love the switchback pic. Looks like some real fun there, Jim.

fjr,

I can't speak to seat improvement, my first experience w/ KLR (or any Kaw). Seems OK. My back seems to give out before my butt. The seat is good for at least a 100 miles on the highway - easy. Plenty of room to move around to change pressure points. Can use either the pilot or passenger pegs. A set of highway pegs might help my back last longer!

On 2-track gravel and dirt roads and up on the pegs, seat is fine and the bike is very nimble for her size, scoots along at a nice clip. The only single track I have tried was one morning after a shower just for the hell of it - a slippery bit of red clay mud - all out work to keep her moving forward - front end wanted to wash out. Would need better tires if this was to be your regular game.

She is VERY smooth, vibration minimal when compared to my Yammie 2-stroke enduros from many years ago (though I may find out differently after she is broken in, limited to 4000 rpm now) .
