IIRC, the Gen II mufflers contain a catalyst element whereas the Gen I mufflers do not. Not sure about Gen III. I don't believe it would affect operation (other than potentially emissions). Yes, they are all physically interchangeable with the hole pattern difference as [USER=98210]@Dan Cooper[/USER] mentioned above.
