Finaly tired of the pain and infections so I go in in the morning to have whats left of my teeth pulled and new ones installed. Not looking foward to the pain but I get some really good drugs for awhile. If I post something strange in the next few days don't pay any attention to it. Any good ideas for food choices would be nice.

My wife is doing the smart thing and going to Vegas for a week so she doesn't have to put up with me. If any of you perverts want to visit the goats this is your chance

i have no love for the dentist, but what they do is for the best of your own health. (why else I pay some one to poke and stab me in the mouth?)

on the brighter side of things you get CANDYS :D vicodin and a lot of it. :drag:

My old brutal doctor gave it away like candy, small consolidation prize for taking near 3 hours to pull one tooth, under local, smelling burnt bone/tooth and having a large hole in my jaw (no stitches). :***: :dead: When I ran out of vicodin he prescribed more no questions asked.

Edit: if they offer to knock your *** out for the procedure, I would do that

The VA has been sending me jars of Vicodin for some time and I very seldom take it so I have a large stash. :yahoo:

FJRay, I'm pulling for you Buddy! Luckily, I've most of my original teeth at 61; but a lot of them are aftermarket bolt ins; and I don't like visiting the dentist either.

Don't worry about posting anything strange. Thanks to Old Michael, barb, johnny80s, ShinyPartsUp, Bust, RadioHowie and Papa Chuy: Nothing's too strange here!!!

I am no fan of dentists. I would see if they could put you out vs. the usual numb you up and start pulling. I use to box and have had more than a few teeth knocked out and a lot of them are bust up still, as the repairs are starting to fail. My cousin is an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon and is going to do it for me in a year or so. We talked about it and she said it is not to bad if you take pain meds and just stick with Ensure and liquid drinks until the swelling goes down.

Ray, I know this is going to sound odd, but my father-in-law, about 65 now, had no end of trouble with his teeth and American dentists. So he went to Mexico and had about $8,000 worth of replacement teeth put in for about $3,000.

I've just started something called "Invisalign" - essentially mouthpiece-like corrective braces. You take them out to eat, but otherwise wear them all the time, changing them every two weeks for a new set that increases the correction. I'm a little uncomfortable nearly all the time, but looking forward to a healthier smile.

Wishing you the best and a speedy recovery. I'm sure it will help with your overall health and well-being, so hope you'll look at it that way.

I've had only 2 visits in the past 27 years. I just can't force myself. T-boning a Subaru at 50mph is literally less painful. I'd much rather try my chances at surviving that again, than go to a dentist.

Once I had the "doctor" numb me on the left side, then proceed to pull two teeth on the RIGHT side. I was confused, but I figured "hey, he's the doctor...." I don't remember doing it, but I punched him in the gut hard enough to put him down for a while, and I was only 15. All I remember is the sound of a "crack!" and a mouthful of pain and electricity and copper taste, and then him moaning on the floor. Having teeth pulled w/o anesthesia is really painful.

I've told just about every single moron-with-a-drill that I'm resistant to procaine derivatives, and I've had 85% proceed to tell me that I'm numb and I'm "imagining it" and try to do whatever. Once I screamed so bad, that my friend told me three people left the waiting room because of it. I've *never* had anyone offer to knock me out. I've asked and been told "that's not necessary"

I had one dentist that could actually give injections without pain, and actually changed anesthetic when I didn't go numb, to something that actually did the job. The ******* then proceeded to retire 3 months later.

I had one guy about 2 years ago do a terrific job of putting in a crown to replace a rear molar that had shattered 22 years ago, but I have such a fear that I can't get up the courage to go back. I really need to, because I have one tooth that's rotated sideways, and one tooth that's missing about 2/3rds of itself. I just can't.

You definitely have my sympathy!

Good luck and heal fast, Ray. I've been lucky to have no cavities or other teeth issues, except for a couple occasions of putting sports equipment in my mouth in my youth. So thankfully, I probably can't truly appreciate your pain, but wish you the best -- may the pain meds be very effective!

I hope all goes well Ray. But I have to ask: how will we know if you post something strange? I mean, compared to all the others?

And if Rte. 138 was clear I'd ride up to ya (and visit your hooved babies) ...

Best of luck bro. Just tell me it isn't the VA doing the dental work. Please. <<shiver>>

No VA dental. Have to be at least 60% service related to get dental. They are working on my cardiac issues.

The hooved ones are my wifes, I just try to get them dates and collect the fees.

Time to take some Halcyon so its off to LaLa land.

My wife and I refer to our dentist as the Sadist, fortunately he takes it ok. I'm no fan of dentists either, but do go because a little discomfort and pain now helps prevent big time pain later.

Surprisingly, some bacteria in our mouth can actually cause heart problems and other general health issues. This is serious enough that Sadists will often prescribe antibiotics in advance of procedures to reduce the risk to your heart. People should really see the dentist as a way to keep the rest of the body health too.

Good luck FJRay!!!

How right you are. Been on the antibiotics for a month getting ready for this. Now its time for recreational drugs. :clapping:

Ray,

Try hooking one of these up to a nasal cannula and you'll be AOK, then what you have left over can be plumbed into your throttle bodies for a quick trip home!

Good luck!

I get my jaw broken in the fall, in 3 places, then wired shut for 8 weeks.

Good luck Big Guy, enjoy the meds. I'll be looking for a full report on 'em.

Modern dentistry is much less painful than it was when I was younger. My dentist is very gentle and gives me as much novacaine as I need. The most painful part of a visit to her office is the bill.

Funny, I ignored this thread.

I've been to the dentist twice in the last 24hrs. I've got a mouthful of metal (upper and lower partials). My wisdom teeth came in impacted and pushed all my other teeth together causing micro-cracks. My wisdom teeth didn't hurt at all and being no fan of dentists, I left it for years. Well once my molars started breaking in two something had to be done. Suffice to say that a visits with some valium got all the rotten ones pulled out and the partials fitted. I can't tell you how much better I felt overall after all was said and done. I suspect you'll be the same.

So, back to the dentist twice in the last 24hrs...

2 Saturdays ago I woke up in the morning with a 'free-range' tooth in my mouth. One of my upper canines just gave up the ghost. Unfortunately, it was a main mounting point for my upper partial. Go see the dentist. I was given 3 choices, the first being an implant, about $2500. The second being an implant that only serves as an anchor for the partial, about $1800. The third was just leave the busted tooth (I had root canal done on it, doesn't hurt in the least) and add a tooth to my partial (a couple hundred).

As I got restructured last Sept and now have no dental benefits, I had to go for option 3 and take my chances.

So I'm sitting here typing this and I'm lookin' like Buford Bindertwine without my partial while its out getting a new tooth welded on. Should be back to normal later this afternoon.

Oh, little tip. After you get your teeth fixed see the Hygenist regularly. I went about 15 years without having any major work done after getting the partials. Just do NOT call her 'The Hygenitrix".. that was a painful session..
