My friend and I are planning to trailer our FJRs from Pittsburgh to Colorado Springs to begin

a 10 day ride in the Rockies. We have a good 6 1/2 by 10 foot trailer. I saw an ad in Rider

for the WheelDock and it like a well thought out device. Has anyone had experience with the Wheeldock

good or bad?

I don't have any experience with the WheelDock but upon reading the FAQ, (see below) the one thing that stands out is that the device is going to be dedicated to one particular tire size, or a fairly narrow range of sizes, without fiddling around with spacers or exchanging it for a different size. Having multiple bikes myself, and not wanting to restrict myself to hauling only bikes that I've pre-selected the proper spacers for, makes this a non-starter for me.

I would just buy a basic one-size fits most chock and a couple of sets of good ratchet straps. The quick in-out feature isn't going to be that big of a deal for you, since it sounds you're most likely going to load and unload the bikes only twice during your entire trip.

1. What happens if I change bikes and need a different size Wheeldock?

We have a factory exchange program to the original owner. For a charge of $100 plus shipping, we will exchange your old unit for any appropriate size. A Return Authorization (RA) is all that is required. Instructions for obtaining an RA are in the owner's manual.

2. What if I have two different sized front tires but only want to haul one bike at a time?

Purchase a chock for the bike with the widest tire and a set of spacers for the narrower tire. When hauling the narrow tire just zip-tie the spacers into the chock.

...

6. How many sizes are available?

WHEELDOCK currently makes 6 sizes for street bikes and 1 size for dirt bikes. All of our stands are designed with approximately 1/8" clearance between the tire and stand. This provides both a good fit and easy access in and out of the stand. Also, the shoe profile is different for each model. This difference creates 3 points of contact between the shoe and the tire, 2 points at the widest portion of the tire and 1 on the bottom of the tire. Sizing information may be obtained by using our search feature or by downloading our Tire-Sizing Gauge.

I like the Condor Pit-Stop. Here is the link:

Condor

The wheel chock works with wheels from 14 to 21 inches in diameter.

Comes with a trailer adaptor that allows it to be removed quickly.

The chock only weighs 30 lbs (all aluminum construction)

Worth the money at $250.

+ 1 ^^^ Condor

I have the trailer only chock mounted on a m/c air lift table and it's one of the best things I've ever gotten.

I saw it demo'ed at a m/c show and that cinched it for me -- had to have one.

(glad I did)

To O.P. -- if your trailer is an enclosed one, 2X4s fastened to the floor and verticle walls make good temporary chocks (in concert with good tie-downs and solid attachment points).

Ditto on the Condor,, works fantastic.

+2 on the condor, I have two of them and use them for everything from maintenance to putting them in trailers, they can fit all size wheels, even back tires and they fold up nice and hang on the wall out of the way.

I own a wheeldock and have had nothing but good luck with it. It's very easy to use and worked perfectly trailering the FJR from NC to Daytona beach in a 20' enclosed trailer behind a motorhome and also in the back of a 40' moving truck from NC to Tampa when I recently moved. It's one of those pieces of equipment that I have only used on those two trips because I was not able to figure out a way to ride there due to scheduling. I will also say that I had an issue with the quick release bracket they sell and a call to the company was met with a quick return call from the owner while he was on vacation and a very easy exchange.
