Hi All,

Sorry if this seems like a lame question - I just have no frame of reference.

I just picked up an '07 FJR that has a Rifle windshield on it. Bringing it home on a trailer I noticed the windshield shaking quite a bit from the turbulence coming off the truck, so I ended up using a bungee cord to stabilize it. After arriving home I noticed that if you grab the windshield from the top and move it back and forth (front to back) that there is a lot of play. While riding the pressure is only pushing it back only with no real problem. It appears that the play comes from under the faring cowling. I haven't removed anything yet.

Thanks in advance.

Rick

It's going to be hard to determine if we are seeing the same thing, but if I grab the top edge of my windscreen, I can wiggle it back and forth. I would use the phrase "not much" to describe the movement. If I had to put numbers to it, I would guess half an inch or so of movement at the top of the windscreen. The movement is coming from the brackets that allow the windscreen to be adjusted up or down, but not the actual mounting point of the screen to the bracket (if that makes sense). I never considered it an issue, however, and won't unless the dang thing comes off and smacks me in the face! :p

Hi Rick,

I too ride an 07 FJR and being able to move the windshield back and forth is just the nature of the beast. When riding the air pressure holds it back so it is stable.

I noticed the stock windshield on my '08 (picked up last month) also shakes a lot more than the fixed Rifle I had on my '90 Concours. And I'm ordering a Rifle for the FJR this week. So I'm interested in this as well.

I don't recall the BMW adjustable windscreens ('08 R1200RT and K1200GT) shaking like the FJR (but they were short test rides many months ago.

Well, I checked how much it's moving and I'd say it's about 1 inch with the shield all the way down. If it's the nature of the beast, I guess there's no concern here. The Rifle is a pretty tall screen, which may be adding to the movement. I was hoping not to have to tear in to it just yet!

Thanks,

Rick

+1 for Post # 2. I just put the stock screen back on and it does not wiggle as much back and forth as the cal sci. did. the cal sci did wiggle back and forth about a 1/2 inch.

Your post reminded me that I should have mentioned I am using a CB +2 +2, not stock. I am going to guess that the added weight of the aftermarket windscreen adds to the obvious movement of the brackets. My roommate's screen doesn't move as much, but it does still move, just as you noted.

I have a 2007 with a Cal Sci and it moves about 1/2 inch in the down position. It does appear to move more when extended.

Good Luck,

Not to worry boys. Okmac has it right. That's just the way it is. Don't tear your bike down looking for a fix. You'll get used to any movement in the windshield.
