This with multiple breaks in his feet and torn ligaments in his ankle. He had just gone fastest in the first section on his out lap. He pulled straight back into the pits after this and was panting like a race horse. He doesn't get off the bike at all when in the pits, and waited for the front to be changed. He went back out and overshot straight away into the gravel having to stamp a foot down. Lots of questions being raised about his safety for the race. As I write he is 3rd on the grid.

Other factoids....Hayden took pole briefly then dropped it on the far side of the track just as the qualifiers were coming out and had to run all the way round the track to get back on his other bike.

Edwards declared that he was a new rider...born again for this weekend and promptly broke the outright lap record and took pole with Rossi 2nd Stoner 3rd Lorenzo 4th!!! follwed by Ped, Cap, Tos, Ver, RdP.

Hayden 10th Hopkins 14th, also after an off during the fastest part of qualifying.

Weather forecast for the race very very wet.

Unfreakin'-believable. After watching the vid of that high side and hearing of his injuries, I can't believe he's riding.

Edwards has really blossomed on the satellite team. He seems like he's riding better than ever. Maybe he was just too tense with Vale as a teammate? Or, I guess more realistically, he just works better with these guys on set up? Regardless of the cause, I'm really glad to see it happen and I'll be rooting for him tomorrow.

But my oh-so-bold prediction is that Vale gets his first win of the season.
