I think you have your reply, but I thought I'd add my 2 cents.
I rode the Lost Coast as part of my Lap of California in June of '09

I know I haven't posted pics... ride report... uh no real good excuse.... I do have all the notes and pictures ... anyway
My impression of 211 (Loast Coast) - worst stretch of paved road in my entire 8 day, 3,100 mile trip.
I agree with earlier comments some of souther stretch of that (especially between Petrolia and 101), gravel would have been preferred in some cases. That road looks like it hasn't been fully resurfaced in 20+ years (or more). patch on top of patch on top of patch on top .....etc. And there is an old metal-frame bridge with wooden driving surface (1 lane only, 50+yds?). Wasn't expecting that - Gotta nice picture of it before crossing cautiously.
I was at the end of a long day (Willow Creek on 299 in AM, over to Euraka for urgently needed new rear tire, back towards Willow Creek, right turn at Titlow Rd (to Forest Rd 1) down to 36 near Mad River(?) {which was better than the Lost Coast Rd, which is saying something} east to Hwy 3, double-back on 36 to Hwy 101 to Fernbridge, down to Ferndale, lost coast ->Petrolia -> Honeydew, over to 101 and continue south - spending night in Shelter Cove (which was great).
I was told the road from HoneyDew to Shelter Cove is great, but gravel for a few miles. I wasn't willing to get paint damage so I skipped that section ;^)
Being at the end of 10+ hours of riding mtn roads (on 5th day of riding), I didn't have the patience to ride real slow. In many stretches 20-25mph felt REALLY fast, and I'm glad I had moutain bike experience as I felt I was helping guide/plant the front wheel (that rought at the that speed riding solo). 2-up and riding real slow - should be fine.
Pretty sites, road really sucked.... rattled the bike, bodywork, Givi trunk on PCA rack and me pretty good.
The road is paved (badly) and if you alot sufficient time to ride and have the patience for slow speeds (10-15 mph for many miles on end), the road would be much more enjoyable
