Don't forget Eel River Brewing in Fortuna .. or if you get to Ft Bragg, there's North Coast Brewing, makers of Old Rasputin Imperial Stout!

Sweeet , careful you will have to change the name of the run "Lost Coast Brew Run" , lookin forward to it , give you all an up date on road if i can get out there.

update (phone), called some connections , hey were in Humboldt everyone has connections B) So from 101 to Honeydew the first part 4-5miles is state the county roads cant touch it , he said its pretty rough , after that they keep it fairly good. My new buddy that works for the county said he rides his HD out there all the time and they have crews out there maintaining it from both ends, in may there is another run (bicycles i think) and he said they fix the road pretty good for that event. So is that a big maybe the road will be good ;) , keep it real

From a good group of riders of Humboldt that i would like to say i go riding with , but i did ride with them once :) i guess thats all it takes,

Ride On

"I drove out to Petrolia from Ferndale, last weekend. It was ugly. 2 new slides since the last aftershock. Tons of potholes, uneven pavement, gravel stretches. I won't be tacking my Triumph out that way for some time........." Barb

I think you have your reply, but I thought I'd add my 2 cents.

I rode the Lost Coast as part of my Lap of California in June of '09 https://www.fjrforum.com/forum//index.php?showtopic=116524

I know I haven't posted pics... ride report... uh no real good excuse.... I do have all the notes and pictures ... anyway

My impression of 211 (Loast Coast) - worst stretch of paved road in my entire 8 day, 3,100 mile trip.

I agree with earlier comments some of souther stretch of that (especially between Petrolia and 101), gravel would have been preferred in some cases. That road looks like it hasn't been fully resurfaced in 20+ years (or more). patch on top of patch on top of patch on top .....etc. And there is an old metal-frame bridge with wooden driving surface (1 lane only, 50+yds?). Wasn't expecting that - Gotta nice picture of it before crossing cautiously.

I was at the end of a long day (Willow Creek on 299 in AM, over to Euraka for urgently needed new rear tire, back towards Willow Creek, right turn at Titlow Rd (to Forest Rd 1) down to 36 near Mad River(?) {which was better than the Lost Coast Rd, which is saying something} east to Hwy 3, double-back on 36 to Hwy 101 to Fernbridge, down to Ferndale, lost coast ->Petrolia -> Honeydew, over to 101 and continue south - spending night in Shelter Cove (which was great).

I was told the road from HoneyDew to Shelter Cove is great, but gravel for a few miles. I wasn't willing to get paint damage so I skipped that section ;^)

Being at the end of 10+ hours of riding mtn roads (on 5th day of riding), I didn't have the patience to ride real slow. In many stretches 20-25mph felt REALLY fast, and I'm glad I had moutain bike experience as I felt I was helping guide/plant the front wheel (that rought at the that speed riding solo). 2-up and riding real slow - should be fine.

Pretty sites, road really sucked.... rattled the bike, bodywork, Givi trunk on PCA rack and me pretty good.

The road is paved (badly) and if you alot sufficient time to ride and have the patience for slow speeds (10-15 mph for many miles on end), the road would be much more enjoyable

Thanks for the replies, esp. this last one. I rode it in '06, so I don't expect it to be smooth, adn with gov't budgets these days, there are a lot of out of the way roads that will only be deteriorating more. I thought I'd ride it again this year before it gets any worse.

I was most interested in your comments about the road from Shelter Cove road to Honeydew. I would love to ride that (slowly, of course), but haven't yet made that decision, as opposed to coming in from 101 to Honeydew again.
